Top 5 Restaurants in Longford for a Memorable and Gastronomic Experience

If you’re hungry in Longford and not sure where to go, don’t worry–we did the eating for you.

At one point, we were so full from hopping between cafés and restaurants that we had to take a long walk around the block just to make room for dessert. But it was all worth it, because the food was just too good to quit.

And after all that tasting, testing, and pretending we had endless stomach space, we finally narrowed it down. Below, we’ve listed and reviewed the best restaurants in Longford for a meal that feels like a little holiday for your belly, so read on!

How we chose

Wide Variety: We went with spots that serve many kinds of dishes, including Irish staples, daily treats, as well as vegan-, vegetarian-, and kid-friendly picks.
Warm Longford Welcome: We chose spots where the staff are kind, chatty, and make you feel like you’ve been coming for years, even if it’s your first visit.
Easy Location: We chose places that are simple to find and close to town. Extra marks if you don’t spend half your visit looking for parking.
Great Value: We picked places that give you plenty of food for a fair price, so you can enjoy a great meal without spending too much.

If you love fresh pastries, warm crêpes, and creamy coffee, Dessert Mania in Longford is a place you shouldn’t skip. The moment we walked in, the smell of baked goodies hit us like a brick (and we loved it).

It’s easy to find and right in town—no wandering around like a lost tourist. And while it’s not beside a cliff or harbour, the cosy café and small garden out back make it a lovely place to sit. Kids can play, adults can relax, and everyone gets a moment to breathe.

What we love about this place is the classic warm Longford welcome. The staff are kind, chatty, and greet you like you’ve been coming for years. It’s friendly without being pushy.

The menu is bigger than you’d expect, too. They’re known for bubble waffles, churros, chimney cakes, custard tarts, crêpes, and cakes.

But you’ll also find sandwiches, soups, smoothies, teas, and breakfast dishes—including vegetarian and kid-friendly meals. We were just sad to see that there are limited vegan options.

Nonetheless, the value is fantastic. Prices are fair, portions are generous, and the coffee is really good. It feels like the sort of place where you get more than you pay for, and that always makes a meal taste even better.

Pros

  • Fresh, handmade desserts
  • Very friendly staff
  • Cozy spot
  • Excellent coffee
  • Large sweet and savory menu
  • Kid-friendly with an outdoor play area
  • Great value and big portions
  • Fast service
  • Comfortable indoor and outdoor seating

Cons

  • Limited vegan options

A fantastic place for sweets, soups, sandwiches

If you’re exploring Longford and want a warm, inviting place to grab a bite, Moments Café & Restaurant is a great pick.

It’s right on Main Street, so you won’t end up wandering around like you’re in a maze, and the menu has everything from big breakfasts to sweet treats and even wine for “grown-up dessert”.

The food options are diverse, featuring classics like pancakes, eggs Benedict, and salads. The breakfasts are a huge hit, though some dishes—like the lasagne—could use a little more… well, lasagne.

There are vegetarian, gluten-free, and a few vegan options, but vegans might find themselves choosing between soup and, well, more soup.

One of the highlights of our experience is the staff. They’re very friendly and welcoming. Even on busy days, they keep things cheerful. Families will feel right at home here.

Although the restaurant’s location is very convenient, parking can be somewhat of a challenge. Also, prices and portions can vary, but if you go here for their breakfast set, you’ll definitely feel like you’re getting good value.

Pros

  • Super friendly staff
  • Great breakfast and coffee
  • Wide menu
  • Cozy, comfortable space
  • Very kid-friendly
  • Convenient Main Street location
  • Good value for breakfast/brunch

Cons

  • Portions can be small
  • Some dishes are hit-or-miss
  • Limited vegan options
  • Gets noisy and crowded
  • Slow service when busy

A place for good food, professional service, and quiet time

A great breakfast place in town

“The breakfast was so good, we ate here twice during our stay. The coffee was also very good. I don’t like espresso, so it was great to get regular drip coffee. We sat by the window and enjoyed people watching as we relaxed and ate. Recommend!”

If you’re looking for a great meal in Longford, Vocella’s Bistro is always worth a visit. Right in the centre of town, this cosy Italian bistro feels like walking into someone’s home kitchen. It’s the kind of place that can make a quick dinner feel special.

Pasta lovers, steak fans, seafood eaters, and even kids with simple tastes will find a dish they like. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are easy to find, and even a few vegan dishes are also offered.

We love that many recipes come from Chef Lisa Vocella’s family, handed down from her Italian grandmother, because it makes the dining experience feel personal and intimate. Everything is made fresh to order with local ingredients, too!

We also appreciated how the staff are friendly and welcoming. They’ll help with last-minute tables, allergies, or just chatting with families passing through. Service can be slower when it’s busy, but the warmth makes up for it.

Finally, finding Vocella’s is easy, though parking can be tricky. Portions are generous, and flavours are on point. Some dishes could be bolder, but overall, this place is a top Italian spot in Longford.

Pros

  • Fresh, homemade Italian dishes
  • Friendly staff

  • Generous portions
  • Cozy, central location
  • Local ingredients

If you’re craving real Asian flavours, Mekong Asian Street Food is worth a look. Right in the middle of town, it serves everything from curries and stir-fries to noodles and crispy treats.

Sweet, spicy, or savory–it’s easy to find something to love at this restaurant. They also have options for vegetarians, vegans, and kids, so the whole family can eat without complaints.

Portions are big, prices are fair, and most dishes taste amazing. Our favourites include the Bang Bang Chicken and Duck Soba Noodles. There were a few meals that didn’t hit the mark, such as the chicken being a bit too tough, or the sauces a little too sweet (but that’s the exception, not the rule).

We loved our time here thanks to the staff. They’re friendly, chatty, and make you feel like a regular even on your first visit. And yes, the free ice cream at the end added a nice, simple touch that made us feel like kids again!

Finally, the location is easy to find on Longford’s main street. Parking can be tricky during busy hours, but there’s paid street parking nearby. After 6 PM, it’s free!

Pros

  • Diverse menu with vegetarian/vegan options
  • Large portions
  • Friendly staff
  • Free ice cream
  • Central location

Cons

  • Inconsistent food quality
  • Basic seating; can feel cold
  • Limited parking at peak times

Authentic Asian food in Longford
“Absolutely authentic Asian food. I tried the Duck soba noodles and it is exactly how my grandma would cook it at home (in Asia). This made me miss home so bad! Highly recommended for an authentic experience. I couldn’t care less about the decor of this place, as long as it’s clean and food is good.”

– KT, Google Review

Great flavors and size portions
“Went with a few friends and the food did not disappoint. Had the duck spring rolls and the curry dish at the bottom of the stir fry section. I can’t remember what it was called, but it was option 41 on the menu. Very good size portions and the flavor was very good. It ticked all the boxes for what I was looking for and would definitely recommend.”

When we stepped inside Take 2 Restaurant, we just had to smile at all the fun 60s and 70s movie-themed decor. The murals and classic movie photos give the place a charm that’s hard to ignore.

We love this place because there’s something for everyone: classic Irish dishes, pasta, chicken, kid meals, and plenty for vegetarians. Vegan modifications aren’t always fully accommodated, so that’s something to consider.

As for the food, we recommend the Korean Chicken Belgian Waffles (let’s just say we didn’t leave a crumb behind) if you want something comforting—something you cannot go wrong with.

We also love how the staff treated us like old friends, even on our first visit. They were helpful, friendly, and stayed upbeat even when it got busy.

The location is also convenient, as it’s right near the centre of Longford. With this, parking is a bit tight, but there are nearby, affordable public spaces.

And the portions? Huge. We walked out full, happy, and already planning what we’d try next time.

Pros

  • Fun retro restaurant
  • Wide menu for kids, vegetarians, and meat lovers
  • Friendly, attentive staff
  • Generous portions at fair prices
  • Central, easy-to-reach location

Cons

  • Service can be inconsistent
  • Vegan options not always fully accommodated
  • Occasional delays or issues with dishes

Great atmosphere with excellent music

“Went with the family for lunch. Was greeted by a very friendly waitress and then helped to our table. The food was good and fresh. The atmosphere was delightful with a number of family 80s songs playing in the background.”

– Deena Naidoo, Google Review

Top tier food, service, decor, and music

“Food is always excellent. I have had a variety of dishes here. Service is top tier and the music/decor of the place is very snazzy. 10/10.”
