If you’re visiting the charming village of Kinvara in County Galway, The Pier Head Bar & Restaurant is a spot you really shouldn’t skip. Sitting right on the pier, it offers amazing views, fresh local food, and a warm welcome that makes you feel right at home.
The location really stole the show for us. Most tables look out over attractions like Kinvara Bay, the pier, and even Dunguaire Castle, so you’re likely to spend half your meal staring outside instead of at your plate.
We also adored the staff, who were friendly, helpful, and never hovering—no one’s breathing down your neck while you eat your chips.
Seafood lovers will be in heaven, with all the fresh fish and big seafood platters. We recommend the Atlantic seafood chowder, Thai seafood pot, and seabass with white wine sauce.
The menu also has daily specials to keep things exciting. Vegetarians get a few decent choices, though vegans should phone ahead unless they enjoy surprises.
Most importantly, portions are generous, prices are fair, and the views alone could charge €10 extra without anyone complaining. It’s a bit pricier than a standard pub—but absolutely worth it!
Beautiful restaurant by the water
“They were able to squeeze us in rather quickly on a busy night, we were very grateful! The food was delicious as well. I loved the lamb! Beautiful setting right by the water. We got to sit outside in the little enclosed patio area. Servers were attentive and pleasant.”

Great place to stop by from Galway
“Enjoyed lunch here on a drive from Galway to Doolin. Kinvarra is only about 15 mins from Galway but such a pretty place to stop and take a stroll after getting out of the traffic in the town and the best option on that part of the coast road.”

The Glass Door is a real Kinvara gem, especially if you love crispy fish and chips or a proper, juicy burger. It’s close to the heart of town, cosy, welcoming, and serves fresh homemade food that is way above your usual fast food.
Most seats are indoors, but there are a few outdoor tables if you fancy some people-watching. You won’t see the whole harbor, but it’s still nice to sit outside, watch the world go by, and enjoy your meal.
The establishment feels very chill and friendly, so you can chat without shouting. Kids are welcome, with puzzles to keep them busy and baby-changing facilities that make life easier for parents.
The menu is small but packed with great options. Their fish and chips are rumoured to be among the best in Ireland, and the burgers—beef, chicken, or the surprisingly tasty vegan lentil one—are made from scratch.
They also offer great value. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and you’ll likely leave thinking you’ve just pulled off a small bargain. If you’re feeding a family or just treating yourself, you’ll leave full and happy.
Excellent burgers for a very good price
“It’s a low key-looking restaurant with excellent burgers, both beef and chicken and excellent service for a very good price. We eat out a lot and have paid much more and gotten less quality, especially the service. The folks, the lads, the gals, all very friendly and professional. Decent selection of beers as well.”

Keogh’s Restaurant has been a favourite for locals and visitors for years because the food is hearty, the staff are friendly, and the whole place feels warm and welcoming, like a hug on a rainy day in Galway.
It’s close to the centre of Kinvara, so it’s easy to wander around the village or take a quick look at the harbour. As a nice bonus, the indoor and outdoor seating offer nice views of the town and the Burren’s hills.
Inside, it’s cosy and calm, and the staff are attentive. We love that there’s a kids’ activity area to keep little ones busy while adults try to enjoy a quiet meal.
When it comes to food, we recommend seafood chowder, fish and chips, BBQ pork sandwich, and the veggie omelette for a good start to the day. The daily specials add some fun variety, and most diners—vegetarian, gluten-free, or picky—will leave satisfied.
Finally, portions at Keogh’s are generous, and the prices are fair. While service can slow down when it’s busy and parking can be tricky, it’s still a great place for a great, relaxed meal.
Food for all ages and tastes
“I had dinner with my family at this restaurant. They had simple food to suit all tastes and ages. The portions are quite generous, so you won’t leave hungry. Finally, I’d like to mention that the staff is very friendly and the service is very fast. I would definitely return.”

If you’re exploring Kinvara and want a spot that feels like a local secret (without actually being a secret), Siar Kinvara should be at the top of your list.
Tucked right by the water at Brogan House on the Quay, this family-run café and deli is the kind of place that makes you want to sit down, sip your coffee slowly, and forget about the world for a while.
The first thing we noticed was the view. Sitting by the harbor, you get a clear look at Kinvara Bay, the hills of the Burren, and the charming streets nearby.
Inside, it’s warm, cheerful, and welcoming—just be prepared to wait for a seat at peak times here. Meanwhile, the staff are lovely, and if you’re lucky, Chummy the resident dog might trot over for a hello.
As for the menu, it’s fresh, flavourful, and proudly homemade, from the bagels and sandwiches to the baked treats and stews. With daily specials and options for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free diners, nobody leaves hungry or grumpy.
Finally, from a coffee to a full-on lunch, the portions are generous, and your wallet won’t cry afterwards—best value for money!

If you’re in town and fancy fresh Asian flavors with generous portions, Zen Asian Restaurant and Sushi is worth checking out. It’s not on the harbour, but the friendly, relaxed vibe makes it a perfect pit stop after wandering the village or the Burren.
Step inside, and you’ll see a bright, clean space with simple, comfy décor. It’s cosy but not fancy, and the staff always makes us feel right at home with their friendly attitude.
The menu at Zen is surprisingly big for a small place. If you don’t know what to order, some bestsellers include the sushi, ramen, Thai curries, Singapore noodles, and fried rice.
Signature dishes like Massaman curry are a crowd favorite, and the portions are generous enough to share…if you can bear it.
But what truly sets this restaurant apart is the combination of quality and value. The food is fresh, filling, and the prices won’t hurt the wallet. We were just a bit iffy about the inconsistent pricing—dine-in prices were higher than the takeaway rates.
Satisfying sushi in Kinvara
“Surprise!! We were craving sushi and were not disappointed. The food was very good and fresh, and the service was very friendly. The ambiance could still be improved, but we were satisfied.”
