Top Ophthalmologists in Dublin
As there are many ophthalmologist clinics around Dublin, there were several factors we had to take in when it comes to choosing the ones on our list:
1. Wellington Eye Clinic

Variety of eye conditions covered | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Variety of pre-treatment examinations | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Variety of aftercare treatments | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |

Customer service | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Wellington Eye Clinic is headed by Dr. Paul Kenna and Mr. Arthur Cummings. We’re impressed that both of them have nearly 30 years of experience in the industry, with Mr. Cummings being a member of the International Council of Ophthalmologists (ICO).
We also find it interesting that aside from the usual laser eye and cataract surgery, they offer some relatively rare services. Examples are implantable contact lens surgery and replacement, lazy eye treatment through Bynocs, and eyelid cyst removals.
Their website also includes several articles on each treatment and eye conditions that their patients might face. We think it’s great that they show a breakdown of pricing for each treatment and what to expect during the entire process.
Nearly all of the patients we polled agreed that they have excellent pre- and post-operation services. However, several also noted that their prices are on the higher side – and we agree.
We think that this isn’t entirely unjustified, mind you. To some extent, you do get what you pay for because of the staff’s expertise, great service, and medical technology used overall.
But this will put people off, especially since not all of their treatments can be covered by insurance. It doesn’t help either that they don’t show the available payment options on their website.
Pros
- Great service
- Wide variety of services
- Strong pre- and post-op service
Cons
- Prices are on the higher side
- Not all their treatments can be covered by insurance
- No list of possible payment options
Customer Reviews
LASIK eye surgery success
“I am three days post LASIK treatment and couldn’t be happier. The Wellington Clinic and Dr. Cummings came highly recommended from a friend, and from my very first consultation I knew I was in safe and expert hands.
Dr. Cummings and the whole team are so kind and caring, providing such a positive experience. The level of care and service from the very first phone call to the treatment itself and the aftercare is second to none. If you are considering laser eye surgery, I couldn’t recommend this clinic more.” – Sarah Goss
Temporal arteritis navigated
“Some years ago, I suffered the terrifying experience of temporal arteritis, and Arthur Cummings saved the sight in my right eye..alas, it was too late for the other eye…but I am eternally grateful to him for the wonderful expertise of his brilliant mind, and gentle manner, giving me courage to continue on. His team are gentle, polite and encouraging. He is one of the best eye surgeons in Ireland. Thank you, Arthur.” – Rose Mum

The William Power Laser Eye Surgery Clinic has a very convenient location whether or not you have a car. This is because the clinic is accessible through the Dart or Dublin Bus and they have on-site parking.
Dr. William Power also has 20 years of experience in his field. What’s more, the patients we talked to say that he helps them from diagnosis to aftercare.
His former patients also vouched for the quality of treatment and ease of processing they got during their stay in the clinic. We are unsure, however, of any other staff aside from his secretary that help keep the place running smoothly.
They specialize in cataract, corneal, and laser eye surgery and their fee structure involves a one-off, standalone fee that includes aftercare. They can also handle lens implants, lens replacements, and keratoconus treatment.
Their price for their laser eye surgery (even with the tax rebate) is within the average, which we like.
However, it was a bit difficult to get a list of their prices or of their services that are covered by insurance. We prefer clinics that make such data publicly available from the start, so consumers can shop around easier.
Do take note that they only accept patients during the weekdays, so you would have to plan to have your eyes checked and treated ahead of time.
Pros
- Very accessible location (car or commute)
- Good service from diagnosis to aftercare
- Each service is prices on a one-off, standalone fee with aftercare included
Cons
- Open only on weekdays
- Unsure whether they are covered by medical insurance
- Unsure about prices of their treatments except laser eye surgery
Customer Reviews
Great procedure and aftercare
“The whole process was seamless- Dr. Power spoke with me through the entire procedure and answered any questions I had and put me at ease. He was incredibly kind and passionate and wanted to do his utmost to give me the best vision possible even though 20/20 vision was not guaranteed so I had realistic expectations from the outset. The procedure itself was painless although slightly uncomfortable but well do-able. Afterwards you are talked through post-op instructions which are very easy to follow. I had 20/20 vision post-op day 1 and it’s amazing to be able to see everything in HD! I have gained so much confidence and no longer have headaches like I used to if I didn’t wear my glasses. Everything is brighter and more colorful. It’s unbelievable! I want to thank Dr.William Power and his secretary Sabrina for giving me this opportunity which has been the best decision I have ever made.” – Muirgheal Ottewell
Wonderful service since the first surgery
“I first had laser eye surgery under William Power in 2005, on both eyes. It was a tremendous success and I was told to expect to feel the benefit for 10 years or so. I didn’t feel any decline in my eyesight for more than 14 years so I made another appointment with William Power, and earlier this year I had laser corrective surgery on one eye, substantially improving my eyesight once again. I have to say, I hated wearing glasses and this surgery has meant that I don’t need to wear them. I hope I get as long out of this eye surgery as I did from the first one.” – Barbara Anne Murphy

LaserVision Eye Clinic Dublin is one of the many ophthalmologist clinics in Dublin that can help diagnose, treat, and monitor your eye health. Why do we like them?
First, they can conduct a detailed eye assessment. It can detect eye problems such as diabetes, cataracts, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
As a bonus, they can refer to the results of said assessment to the Leeson Eye Institute for earlier detection. However, it only covers glaucoma and no other referral is mentioned for other diseases.
Second, their laser eye surgery makes use of SurgiCube®, one of the latest in surgical technology. It allows the surgeon a sterile environment to perform this procedure without worrying about air contaminants.
Third, they can provide a variety of postoperative treatments for any of the treatments that they know.
Based on testimonies we got from previous patients, they said that their prices are worthwhile too based on their high quality of service and wealth of expertise. We had no qualms with them during our own consultation and came away pretty impressed with their doctors.
Finally, we like that patients can easily schedule an appointment through their website, email, or phone. These channels can also be used to ask about payment options with or without health insurance as they only posted about being covered by VHI, Quinn Healthcare, and Aviva.
Pros
- Provides complete eye assessment
- Makes use of SurgiCube® for a sterile, safe operating area
- Has postoperative treatments for their eye surgeries
Cons
- No mention of pricing options
- Limited early detection methods

Great overall experience
“Wonderful experience with Laser Vision eye clinic Dublin. Dr. Fenton and Dr. Sebastian were wonderful surgeons, and the staff was always helpful and kind. They ensured I had a smooth prep, surgery, and follow-up. I am so glad I chose Laser Vision and would highly recommend it to anyone.” – Tamires Fernandes
Laser eye surgery successful
“It’s been over 14 years since I had my eyes lasered with LaserVision, I was their very first customer when they opened and have been so happy I made the decision to have my vision corrected. After reading some of the reviews here, I see that John and the team are still giving that exceptional service that was given to me on the very first day, this doesn’t surprise me as I’ve been into them a few times over the years and I’ve been looked after so well every time. I have recommended them to so many of my family and friends over the years and all have been looked after with the same attention to detail as myself on my very first visit, so if you are considering having your eyes lasered you do not need to look any further than LaserVision.” – Peter Murray

What’s great about Vista Eye Clinic is that they have two different locations that you can visit on the weekdays. One is at Sandford Road in Dublin and the other is at Naas, Kildare.
The Dublin Clinic has quite a lot of parking space, which is always convenient. On the other hand, a common complaint for the Kildare clinic is about the rates of the parking meters near it.
What both the clinics have in common is that they’ve received complaints about not being fast enough in responding to appointment requests.
A few clients of both clinics also told us that they weren’t very happy with how they were received during their appointments.
Even so, there are good points to be made about both. For example, we found it great that they offer such a wide range of services: ones that treat styes, glaucoma, cysts, dry eye, cataracts, macular degeneration, children’s eye problems, and uveitis.
Aside from listing their consultation fee and ancillary ophthalmic tests, they’re one of the many clinics that don’t list the price of any of their treatments aside from their consultation fee and ancillary ophthalmic tests.
However, we found in our survey that most patients felt they were able to solve their patients’ issues with care and professionalism. This includes emergency patients without having an appointment, which is definitely a plus for us.
Pros
- Two locations to visit
- Accepts emergency patients without appointments
- Offers ophthalmologist services to children
- Covered by a wide variety of health insurances in Dublin
Cons
- Parking might be a problem
- Either clinic might not be able to respond to immediately
- Inquiry needed for the prices for their ophthalmologist services aside from eye checkups

Naas Clinic gave me hope after horrendous pain
“If you’re looking for great customer care and a knowledgeable eye doctor, go and see Dr. Karen. After 11 hours of being in horrendous pain in emergency room in Naas hospital, where the doctor hasn’t even seen me as they probably thought eyes are not important to have, I have given up. Came in this clinic this morning after I’ve researched eye clinics. Receptionist was very understanding. I have been treated straight away even without an appointment. Doctor Karen relieved my pain with drops and examined my eyes. Everything was explained in full detail and the doctor was very focused on me and actually listened to me throughout the appointment, very professional. Couldn’t be happier with the service provided. Thank you!” – Jelena Radonić, Naas Clinic
Dublin Clinic saved my red eyes from a pinch
“I woke up two days ago with a very red eye and pain under eye lid. Called a few clinics and hospitals but they don’t take emergency eye patients.. called Vista Eye clinic and got an appointment 3 hours later, cant not express my thanks more! Although I was late half an hour due to traffic, Dr.Kevin still waited for me and gave me the solution to my eyes!
Dr. Kevin is so professional and kind and checking my eyes to every details. Thanks Dr.Kevin for seeing me again today for a follow up check despite he is fully booked today! Dr.Kevin cares about the patient and that’s very rare these days. Highly Recommend!” – Congrong Zheng, Dublin Clinic

Last but not the least, there’s Optilase Eye Clinic. It has eight other branches aside from the one in Dublin and more than half of them are open on the weekends (which nets them a point for convenience!).
One of their slogans is to “Focus on your life, not on your glasses” and it shows. They offer laser eye surgery, lens implant surgery, and cataract surgery.
Each of these procedures comes with a step-by-step instruction on their website on how it will go. It’s a small thing, but we think it’s helpful.
If you take any of their available treatments, they provide a Lifetime Care Guarantee. We think this is neat because it provides an aftercare service that you can get any time in the future.
However, they do mention that some terms and conditions apply for their guarantee, so check back with them once you had yourself treated there about what it does and doesn’t cover.
What’s also unique about this clinic is that they have a Corporate Scheme Program. Any Irish employee that’s under this program can get various benefits, including a 10% discount on their Advanced CustomVue WaveFront treatment.
We think that this program is great for employers to keep their employees healthy. However, more details about it are sparse on their website so you would have to contact the clinic directly whether their program fits your company’s needs.
Speaking of discounts, they don’t mention anything about the prices of their other treatments except their cataract and lens implant surgeries.
We’ve talked to some of their previous patients about the clinic. There was one who thought that their recommendation for a treatment was too enthusiastic.
However, most of the reviews cited a great service overall from the consultation to aftercare. They also said that they were able to help improve their eyesight too.
Pros
- Offers a Corporate Scheme program
- Clear step-by-step of each eye surgery
- Lots of branches to choose from
Cons
- Only one of the branches is open on the weekends
- Pricing for cataract and lens implant surgery is not shown

Great experience from two branches
“It was a great experience. I went to the clinic in Cork, the optometrist was great at explaining the procedure, the before care and after care. Had my PRK surgery done in Dublin clinic, the staffs are great there as well. My vision is getting better day by day. It was one of the best decision I ever did in my life!” – Chong Hoei Ser
Painless surgery and helpful staff
“My laser eye surgery experience was painless, I expected there to be some sort of pain during the procedure however there was absolutely none it was amazing. The patient carer was very helpful and comforting about the surgery, I found all the optilase staff very helpful and kind, after having my prk surgery done there was a lot of discomfort for 2 days afterwards however I’m on day 5 now and feel like my eyes are nearly back to normal, I highly recommend optilase as a place to get your eyes fixed up.” – Cody Reid
