Quality of treatment | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Staff qualifications | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |

Variety | ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) |
From the get-go, we find it convenient that East Cork Physiotherapy, Balance & Acupuncture Clinic is located at Midleton Town Center. This means you can head on over, park your car, get one of their many treatments, then drive back home.
Another plus is that they can do online consultations and at-home visits. That way, you can get their services even if you or someone you know can’t come to them due to their condition.
In our surveys, we learned that their staff was very accommodating and actively helped improve their patients’ overall health. Aside from that, we like that they even talk to various GPs, coaches, and occupational health personnel to better get a handle of your issue.
We also appreciate their credentials: all of their physiotherapists are licensed under the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP). At least that tells us they’re conscientious when it comes to training and certification.
Meanwhile, their main acupuncturist and owner is Sheila Barret. She has a Masters of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM) and is a Licensed Acupuncturist, so there’s no doubt she’s qualified for her work.
Despite all these advantages, we don’t like that their prices aren’t listed publicly on their website. Not knowing how their treatment process works without booking an appointment is also a downside.
Pros
- Accepts online consultations
- Performs at-home services
- Ample parking at physical clinic
Cons
- Inquiry needed to know about treatment fees and pricing
- Inquiry needed for their treatment process

Unlike the other clinics we’re going to feature, this clinic specializes in Eastern medicine to treat ailments such as muscle pains, whiplash, nausea, and insomnia.
Its owner Ling Ling Jiang studied Chinese Acupuncture Massage and Chinese Medicine in China in the 1990s. However, she doesn’t seem to be affiliated with any professional organization in Ireland even with 13 years of experience on her back.
Depending on what you expect from your acupuncturists, this can be a disadvantage. We’re not terribly concerned about it, though, as she has pretty good word-of-mouth.
Oh, and another downside we definitely have to mention is that the nearest parking spots to this clinic are around one to two blocks away.
Even so, their patients praise their clinic for its great ambiance and service. Most of them recommend the clinic for lots of things, including their deep tissue massage.
Speaking of ambiance, their clinic is always kept clean and relaxing. We find this great as it can help each patient feel less anxious when getting any of their treatments, especially for first-timers.
Some of them praise Jiang for recommending various avenues of treatment for a patient’s ailment and being easy to talk to. They do not discriminate between new or returning patients, which is always good.
Pros
- Great service
- Staff is friendly and accommodating
- Can help with various ailments from muscle pains to insomnia
Cons
- Nearest parking is a block away
- Ms. Jiang is not affiliated with any professional organization within Ireland

Back problems solved
“I had a great experience! Ling Ling was more than accommodating with getting me an appointment, and had my upper back noticeably more relaxed and loose by the end of session. With me continuing to notice positive results today!” – Tailor Conter
Great recommendation
“I can’t recommend Ling Ling enough! I started attending Ling Ling at her Wellness Center following a recommendation from a friend. I had just recovered from a bout of COVID and along with fatigue and reduced lung capacity I had lost all confidence in my body and it’s capabilities. From session number one I felt so at ease in Ling Ling’s care. She took the time to get to know my body and its needs and I cannot thank her enough! She really gave me back my confidence and I now have a stronger body and mind.
Ling Ling tailors treatments to the needs of her clients in her relaxing atmospheric treatment rooms and it’s always a treat to attend an appointment.” – Nuala Murphy
3. Haven Pain Relief Centre
Criteria | Ratings |
Quality of treatment | ★★★★★ (4/5) |
Staff qualifications | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Ease of booking a session | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Pricing | ★★★☆☆ (3/5) |
Variety | ★☆☆☆☆ (1/5) |
Let’s take a look at Haven Pain Relief Center to see why they made our list.
Some of their other services include orthopedic massage, spinal decompression, and far infrared therapy. However, we don’t like that they only offer facial acupuncture (no body work).
Aside from that, we don’t like how they don’t describe how the treatment will go aside from the “Book an Appointment” link on their website.
They don’t list their prices for any of their services publicly either. Take note that you would have to ask this through phone or email.
Those are problems because a lot of people now just stick to the Internet when shopping around for options. We wouldn’t be surprised if a fair number of potential clients skipped them just because they’re not forthcoming enough about what they offer.
That being said, the quality of their service is lauded by lots of their past patients.
They told us that their staff is very welcoming and this can be said especially towards Dr. Clifford. We did see that in our visit, as well as the fact that they offer ample parking spots for all their patients, which is always a nice bit of convenience.
Dr. Michael Clifford is the founder and head physician of the clinic, by the way. He’s a member of various professional groups, including the Chiropractic Association of Ireland and American Pain Association.
Pros
- Headed by a physician that is a member of the Chiropractic Association of Ireland
- Offers several treatments to reduce and eliminate pain
- Has on-site parking
Cons
- Only offers one acupuncture-related service
- Prices aren’t shown publicly
- Treatment process not explained publicly
Customer Reviews
Continuous great service to treat pain
“I highly recommend Dr. Michael Clifford and the Haven Pain Relief Centre. I suffered from constant severe headaches and back pain after being involved in a rear end collision several years ago. At one point, my lower back was so painful and stiff I could barely get out of bed and I feared I was permanently disabled. Dr. Clifford was kind and very knowledgeable about my injuries. He ordered some MRIs of my spine, and diagnosed me with herniated discs in my neck and back and nerve and muscular issues. He put me on a plan of treatment that included spine and neck decompression, chiropractic, laser and myofascial therapies. Before I was treated by Dr. Clifford I didn’t believe it possible to ever fully recover but thankfully I am now free of pain and no longer need pain medication. I also feel in better health and have more energy than before the accident. I also would like to mention that the staff at Haven are wonderful, very professional and supportive. At Haven you feel that everyone truly cares about you and that you can finally get the answers and the help you’ve been searching for. I am forever grateful to everyone at the Haven.” – Marie Hoar
Can treat multiple pain points
“I have been a patient of Dr Michael Clifford for many years now and it never ceases to amaze me how wonderful he is. I have many issues with my back and thanks to Haven Pain Relief Centre I continue to have a good lifestyle. In recent times I have had foot pain. I mentioned it to Dr Clifford and from there he proceeded to do a gait scan, I needed orthotics and since I got them to get my feet feel great. The staff are so welcoming everytime I go into the clinic and nothing is too much trouble for them I couldn’t recommend them highly enough.” – Ann O’Reagan
4. Dynamic Chiropractic
Criteria | Ratings |
Quality of treatment | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Staff qualifications | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Ease of booking a session | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Pricing | ★☆☆☆☆ (1/5) |
Variety | ★☆☆☆☆ (1/5) |
Dynamic Chiropractic opened its doors in 2003 and has amassed a staff with a combined 25 years experience when it comes to relieving pain and injuries in their patients.
That sounds good but only one of their current staff members is formally trained in acupuncture. And in only one type of treatment–dry needling.
We think that their offering of only one acupuncture treatment is lacking, even if it is delivered very professionally.
We also didn’t like that they say they use it in conjunction with “various treatments” without much explanation on what those are on their own website. Again, that’s a pretty big oversight for companies in the digital age.
With regards to the booking process, we like that there are multiple ways to get an appointment with them (in-person, phone, email, or website).
We appreciate that they offer free parking to any patient that visits in person too.
As they don’t list a specific treatment breakdown for each ailment they can provide relief from, we don’t like that. You might also have to ask them first about how each treatment would go, which may waste time when choosing a physician to help.
Speaking of treatments, this also falls under knowing about their prices.
Pros
- Staff with combined 25 years of experience in dealing with pain and injury
- Combines acupuncture with chiropractic treatments
- Free parking
- Multiple methods of booking an appointment
Cons
- One known acupuncture treatment is used
- No public listing of their prices
Customer Reviews
First session went great

Thanks Erin. Also have to mention Ann in reception, so friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend.” – Lorraine Hennesy

5. Waterford Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic

Quality of treatment | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |

What we like about Waterford Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic is that they have 20 years of experience in Physiotherapy with the help of their lead physician Dr. Peter.
What we don’t like about them is that they only offer one type of acupuncture treatment: dry needling. It’s also one of their treatments for a specific type of injury: chronic type soft-tissue injuries.
On the bright side, they accept house calls and rehabilitation programs for their patients. This is convenient if you know someone who needs their help but they cannot visit in person for their treatment.
Another great thing about them is that they’re open until Saturdays, unlike most others, which are closed on the weekends. We also find it great that they have ample parking spots for anyone visiting in person.
Most of the customers we polled were very pleased with their services. They said they recommend this clinic for injury treatments, in particular.
Anyway, they provide good service, but what about the price? Well, the prices are reasonable enough… but we don’t like that they don’t post their prices publicly despite being covered by most healthcare providers in Ireland.
Pros
- Staff is fully trained in the latest in physiotherapy and acupuncture
- Accepts house calls
- Provides rehabilitation programs
- Has on-site parking
- Open on weekdays and Saturdays
- Covered by health insurance providers
Cons
- No public listing of their prices
- Offers only one acupuncture service

Thorough medical care
“I would highly recommend Peter. He was able to explain the problem I was having with my knee and the causes of the problem extremely well. He then gave me appropriate exercises that were specific for my issue. I now have a much better understanding of the problem I have with my knee and how to fix it.” – Emmet Bergin
Great service from start to finish
“From the initial enquiry about making an appointment the experience has been completely hassle free. Peter returns calls promptly and was very welcoming at the initial visit where he did a thorough assessment and then explained what my issues were and began treatment immediately. Towards the end of the session he videoed me doing exercises which were then emailed to me so I could continue making progress at home. I have had two sessions and am really feeling the benefits. I would recommend anyone with physio needs to contact Peter.” – Mairead McDonald

One of Ireland’s most popular and affordable acupuncture clinics is Dr Acupuncture, with a mission to provide medically sound and cost-effective solutions to people’s health conditions.
They offer acupuncture, massage, herbal medicine, and item allergy test services.
We like that their acupuncture services focus on physical, psychological, emotional or spiritual problems. We like how it doesn’t solely focus on physical conditions.
The ailments they can help treat are anxiety and depression, arthritis and rheumatism, asthma, high blood pressure, menstrual cramps, skin problems, pain relief in childbirth, and addiction.
We think it’s also convenient that they have their prices available, so you can expect how much you’d have to pay.
They have multiple locations, so it adds to the convenience that you’re not left with just one option.
