The 5 Best Tutoring Centres in Ireland to Boost Your Child’s School Results

As parents, we all want our kids to do well in school. But sometimes, extra guidance is needed, and not all parents can provide that kind of support.

Take me, for example. I have zero problems teaching reading, music, and social studies, but chemistry and maths? Perhaps you could say I’m the one who needs the grinds for these subjects.

If your kid needs extra academic help, here are Ireland’s best tutoring services, which will identify the student’s learning gaps and help improve academic strengths. Time to ace that test!

How much is a tutoring centre in Ireland?

A tutoring centre in Ireland typically costs €25 to €50 per hour. However, it depends on the subject, tutor’s expertise, and location.

How We Chose the Best Tutoring Centres in Ireland

Tutor’s Expertise: A tutor must have the proper qualifications and in-depth knowledge in the subjects they teach, ensuring that they can answer any and all questions with facts, not opinions.
Range of Services: A tutoring centre that offers a variety of subjects can accommodate more students, from primary to higher levels.
Approach: Not all students have the same needs, so it’s essential for the tutor to know how to adjust their teaching strategy to ensure a deeper understanding of the lessons.
Availability: The availability of both one-to-one and group sessions can cater to different types of learning needs.
Fees: Any family will appreciate a reasonably priced tutoring service, but most importantly, the cost must align with the quality of teaching to ensure the learner will show progress.

We were delighted upon hearing about Tried&Tutored, a Wexford tutoring centre that welcomes all grade levels, from primary to Leaving Certificate. They’ve got it all sorted out, no matter what subject you need to focus on.

For example, their services include primary school classes, weekly grinds, preparation courses, and mock revisions. Plus, core subjects are taught in these sessions, such as maths and English, as well as all aspects of the exams.

We were chuffed that they stick to small group classes, ensuring that each student gets focused attention while preventing mucking about. That said, there are very limited spots per tutoring class.

We understand why, since they’re not exactly a massive tutoring centre in Ireland. But looking on the sunny side, their experienced tutors know each student well enough to identify their strengths and weaknesses.

Above all else, the parents we conversed with were over the moon with their children’s improvements, as lessons were explained in simple terms. The affordable pricing makes it even better.

Pros

  • Welcomes all grade levels
  • Variety of tutoring classes
  • Sticks to small classes
  • Affordable prices
  • Clear explanation of the lessons

Cons

  • Limited slots per session

2. Kip McGrath

Address: 7 Orchardstown Park, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14

Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 1 pm – 7:15 pm
  • Saturday: 9 am – 12:30 pm

One of the reasons we chose Kip McGrath is because of their personalised learning programmes, starting with students aged 6. Everything’s designed to cater to the learner’s needs, which targets any learning gaps.

Their main focus is on English and maths, while still providing tutoring for reading, spelling, and entrance exams.

Instead of offering weekly grinds, they stick to a structured approach, elevating the learning experience through a deeper understanding, rather than simply memorising.

There aren’t any online tutoring sessions, though. All students will have to pop in the centre, which brings a more regulated environment, but we still wish that the schedule flexibility is still there.

It’s all fine, because they balance it out by offering Flexi/DIY lessons, which are an online lesson programme that allows students to learn at their own pace. Do note that this doesn’t have a tutor, since it’s more about the student maintaining a routine.

At the end of the day, they’re still a qualified tutor in Ireland who brings a structured environment. A good choice, overall!

Pros

  • Personalised learning programmes
  • Targets learning gaps
  • Structured environment
  • Offers Flexi/DIY lessons

Cons

  • No online tutoring sessions

The tailored support and encouraging approach made a real difference

His confidence has increased so much and he says he feels its made him better with learning. He really enjoys using technolog to complete his work. and . The tailored support and encouraging approach made a real difference, and he’s now far more comfortable with his schoolwork. I’d definitely recommend it.”

The overall professionalism is what ultimately led us to include Origin Tutors. We were rather taken by the structured learning environment they provide, which brings in better focus during each session.

They primarily teach secondary levels, from Junior and Leaving Certificate. So, little kids in primary school will have to find another tutoring centre.

Another reason is their one-on-one learning approach, ensuring that the student gets 100% of the tutor’s attention, removing distractions. But of course, small group tutoring sessions are available still, mainly for weekly grinds.

We do like the recorded online tutoring sessions, but the thing is, there’s an extra cost to access the recorded library, which is a bit much, isn’t it?

Looking on the bright side, the tutors are well-experienced in adjusting their strategies and approaches for every learner. Most students liked how the sessions were easy to follow, even for those struggling with maths.

We’ve seen massive improvements from kids too, including receiving good grades with an actual understanding of the subjects, not just memorisation.

Pros

  • Structured learning environment
  • One-on-one and small group sessions
  • Adjusts teaching strategies
  • Easy to follow lessons

Cons

  • Recorded sessions have an extra fee
  • No primary level tutoring

Maintains high standards of professionalism

“I am doing Junior cert. The tutor definitely knows what he is explaining and tries to help me understand what i am learning. He gives me a different and cool way of understanding math equations and it really helped in class. He explains to me very basic stuff to develop better understanding about Maths which in general not possible in school. He maintains high standards of professionalism. Highly recommend this company.”

Has helped me so much

“I have been getting math grinds with Guru for a few months now & I have to say he has helped me so much! When I think of where I was when I started out with him to where I am now, the difference is huge! What I love about Guru is he finds great ways of relating the topics to things that are relative to what the student will understand! Highly recommended”

For students struggling or needing extra help with numbers, Breakthrough Maths is worth checking out. They mainly focus on math grinds for all grade levels: primary, junior, and Leaving Certificate.

It starts with a free class, which we were thrilled about because it gives the student a chance to see if this tutoring centre is the right choice. And this free class mirrors what will happen in the actual tutoring class, which is rather helpful.

To give you an idea, their tutors make learning maths engaging, not boring. And despite only offering online classes, there won’t be distractions because the learner only sees the tutor, despite the latter interacting with a small group of students at the same time.

Plus, we appreciate the consistency. The students attend four classes weekly, ensuring there’s steady progress.

Even though you’re only getting math tutoring, you’re still getting what you’re paying for, based on the quality of their teaching and consistency.

Pros

  • Teaches all grade levels
  • Offers a free class
  • Consistent classes; 4x a week
  • Engaging sessions
  • Distraction-free sessions

Cons

  • No in-person classes
  • Teaches maths only

Great approach to teaching

“My daughter is having lessons with Eoin, 5th year class. I’ve noticed how enthusiastic she is about maths, she is confident and said to me that asking questions is welcomed. I want to thank Eoin for his great approach to teaching.”

– Shaista Zaidi, Google Review

Fantastic programme

“My daughter did 6 weeks of breakthrough maths before her leaving cert and also did the master classes before each exam. I can honestly say that it is an absolutely fantastic programme it really boosted her confidence and I have no doubt her grades will have increased significantly from the courses. I only regret not signing her up sooner. I have recommended this service to every parent I know that has children in second level education… well done to all involved”

5. Reach Tutoring

Hours: Depending on the session

How Reach Tutoring maintains the friendly yet professional approach when teaching is outstanding, but also not surprising. They tailor their strategy for every student, ensuring that the kids’ needs are met and the learning gaps are identified.

The range of subjects they teach blew us away because their tutors aren’t just knowledgeable and experienced in the Irish school system’s core subjects. You’ve got maths, reading, and chemistry, but they elevate learning by offering languages.

Honestly, their language tutors deserve the spotlight. They’ve got a team that can teach Spanish, Arabic, Greek, and so much more, which you don’t normally see in other tutoring centres in Ireland.

It’s just that their slots fill up fast, but they do have more tutors now to accommodate more students than when they first started. The sometimes limited availability isn’t surprising, really, since they teach primary and secondary levels.

The flexibility is another main hook, as the number of sessions is based on the student’s needs—there’s no fixed weekly number. The icing on the cake is the weekly payments, rather than long-term contracts.

Pros

  • Wide range of subjects
  • Teaches languages
  • Flexible schedule
  • No lock-in contracts

Cons

  • Slots fill up fast

Able to teach in such a brilliant way

“Right from the initial chat with Jonny it felt right to go with Reach Tutoring to help our daughter with additional help in both Chemistry and Biology for her GCSE’s. He connected us with the perfect Tutor, Ellie. She was able to teach in such a brilliant way and every week my daughter told us how much she had helped her and how much she had actually enjoyed the lessons! Thank you for all your help.”

– Alan Taggart, Google Review

Always reachable

“Jonny and his team really helped my daughter through her GCSES exams. If possible and I had to reschedule, Jonny was always reachable and when he could would reply back. Each week a reminder message would be sent and honestly it was so helpful as with a busy house things can be forgotten.”
