These 6 best doughnut spots in Dublin are worth our sugar crash!

One unique life advice I can give is to never promise your workmates you’ll bring doughnuts to the office. I did that once when I worked a 9-to-5 job. And let me tell you, I ate 1 at the bakery, 2 on the bus, and 3 more before I could show it to anyone.

And look, I’d hoped everyone would just laugh it off when I told them there were ‘supply issues’, but my friends said I had a problem. They left a bunch of sticky notes on my desk saying, ‘This girl with no self-control ate 6 doughnuts in one go.’ Fair enough.

Luckily, I was eventually forgiven—but only after I treated them to a tasty doughnut shop after work. Yet one thing led to another, and now we’ve gone to many cafes and dessert spots with some of the best doughnuts in Dublin. Below are some of our favourites.

Where can I get doughnuts in Dublin?

There are plenty of spots where you can get doughnuts in Dublin! Notable tasty options include The Rolling Donut, Offbeat Donut Co., Russell Street Bakery, and Ella’s Heaven to satisfy sweet and savoury cravings for these doughy delights.

If you want classic, no-frill doughnuts in Dublin, we reckon The Rolling Donut has some old-fashioned artisan desserts with modern twists you might like. These pastries are popular among patrons due to their gourmet fillings.

The flavours that caught our attention first are the cinnamon sugar rings and the double chocolate brownie. There are vegan-friendly options too, like Ferrero Rocher and raspberry jam. Because who says you can’t enjoy sweets if you’re allergic to dairy?

And should you want to buy a fancy treat for someone at home, we suggest getting the Dubai Donut. For us, it stands out with its crunchy, toasted kataifi (thinly sliced or string) pastry and rich pistachio cream.

Pro tips:

  • We recommend pre-ordering your favourites at The Rolling Donut online to skip the long lines! There are plenty of options anyway, so this would save you lots of time and effort.
  • You can also get a cheaper coffee and a doughnut deal here if you visit on a weekday!

Craving doughnuts for a birthday or any other milestone? Offbeat Donut Co. has some of the best-decorated (arguably over-the-top) doughnuts you’ll ever see in the city. For us, it’s got amazing glazed, punchy flavours that many dessert fans would love.

Our top picks are the Ferrero Rocher and Bueno cheesecake. But if you want a non-chocolate option, we like The Homer, with classic pink glaze and sprinkles on top. In our opinion, seasonal flavours like Christmas Baileys are worth checking out too!

We reckon even the interiors here deserve some love. In our view, the shop looks adorable with its cute, pastel colours—perhaps this is why many youngsters stop by often.

Handy hacks:

  • We noticed that Offbeat Donut Co. often sells out by afternoon, so be sure to get there early to not miss your favourites!
  • Plus, we noticed that the doughnuts here are pretty big. If it’s your first time here, we suggest trying one of each nice-looking pastry first—you don’t want to get too full too fast.

Are you chilling anywhere near Croke Park? Then, you’re only a few hops away from Russell Street Bakery. In our book, this neighbourhood bakery offers some of the simplest yet fluffiest doughnuts, great for a picnic

The highlights for us are the classic sugar ring, raspberry jam, and apple custard. We also like the fresh breads, capuccinos, and occasional sausage rolls if you need something savoury to get you through the afternoon.

Some things to remember:

  • Note that Russell Street Bakery doesn’t offer any indoor seating! Expect to see a tiny space with long queues, so it’s smart to be strategic about this.
  • It’s also wise to bring cash here, since the staff might not accept cards at the moment.

Ella’s Heaven

Want to fix a bad day with a doughnut? Ella’s Heaven has a comfy and inviting vibe that might cheer you up, whether you’re going solo or not. It’s a Georgian-inspired bakery with tasty Middle Eastern desserts that many travellers adore.

We appreciate the wide variety of doughnuts here, with jam-filled, cream, and glazed rings. In our opinion, these options also go well with Turkish coffee (a strong, unfiltered brew with thick foam) or homemade lemonade to balance out the sweetness.

Besides the doughy treats, we think the baklava (sweet layered pastry) and adjaruli khachapuri (Georgian cheese bread) are worth ordering too!

Insider scoop:

We suggest going to Ella’s Heaven mid-afternoon when it’s more serene. With fewer crowds here, we think this is the best time to eat the doughnuts in peace.

Mannings Bakery

  • Sunday to Monday – Closed

Mannings Bakery is both a bakery and a cafe, and we think it provides the best of both worlds. It’s been in business for over 6 decades, so we think you’ll find a bunch of traditional doughnuts here that stand the test of time.

We also recommend getting the old-school cream doughnuts first. For us, this would make millennial (and older) customers nostalgic for the fruity jam and sugar icing. Just be careful when eating this to avoid making a mess.

We’re also in awe of the big selection of sweets here! You can try anything from the classic flaky coffee slices with fresh Irish cream to the red velvet or Belgian milk chocolate gateaux (cake)—we’ve heard these two are family favourites.

Travel advice:

We think Mannings Bakery is an ideal stop if you’re heading out of the city. You might see one near transport hubs, so we say have a few go-to flavours in mind when you pass by.

Parnell Street Bakery

Address: 147 Parnell St, Rotunda, Dublin 1
Contact Details: +353 1 547 5790
Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Friday – 7 AM to 4 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday – 7:30 AM to 4 PM

Pricing: €1 to €10 per person

Another comforting doughnut shop is Parnell Street Bakery with its fresh, classic bakes. It gives off a simple setup with regular counter service and visible trays of baked goods. In our book, this makes for a pretty efficient transaction if you’re pressed for time.

We like the chocolate-frosted and fresh cream-filled rings the most, but we bet sweet tooths would appreciate the raspberry jam ones too. There are also a few sandwiches, such as spicy chicken focaccia (flat, oven-baked bread) for a more filling experience.

Just a reminder:

It can be tough to find parking around Parnell Street Bakery, so we suggest scoping the area first—especially if you want to avoid the paid ones.
