Heart disease and stroke prevention and management are one of his special interests. In fact, his master’s thesis relates to heart disease and stroke risk factors among Irish citizens.
Dr Morris also focuses on mental health, and we particularly like this statement of his, “I listen to my patients and it is often through this that we find the solutions.”
Dr Morris’s expertise also includes vaccines, tropical medicine, antenatal care, and children’s health. Additionally, he is currently a clinical fellow in global health at the Irish College of General Practitioners.

As such, he conducts minor surgical procedures such as excision of skin lesions, carpal tunnel injections, foreign body removal, and more.
Moreover, what makes him pretty unique among other GPs is that he is also a cosmetic practitioner and is trained in botulinum toxin injections.
For the couples out there, Dr Persad’s clinic can be a great choice to know your family planning options. This is because it provides all forms of contraception (e.g. Mirena, Implanon, etc.).
And because he’s had surgical training, Dr Persad can carry out no-scalpel vasectomies, a form of permanent sterilisation for men.
You’ll even find a video of Dr Persad himself explaining this procedure on their website.

One of the older doctors on our list, Dr Kieran Whyte has been a GP for more than 30 years.
So if you’re the kind of patient who leans more towards doctors with lengthy experience, Dr Whyte may be the right GP for you.
He’s earned diplomas in various medical fields, such as in mental health, child health, and musculoskeletal injury and management. Add to these his certificates in family planning and traffic medicine.
Moreover, being an aeromedical and seafarer examiner is one of Dr Whyte’s specialities. He is recognised by the Department of Transport and the Irish Aviation Authority to serve as such.
Actually, Dr Whyte reserves his Tuesdays and Thursdays to conduct the following: aeromedical examinations, seafarer medicals, diving medicals, and travel vaccinations.
Plus, he is a sports enthusiast. This is apparent in his profession as he also takes a keen interest in sports medicine.
Additionally, the proximity of his clinic to Galway City Centre makes it a convenient location for plenty of his clients.
Nevertheless, the biggest issue we have with Dr Whyte is his availability. He probably has the shortest clinic hours on our list. This could be because he also practices at Mervue HSE Clinic since the said clinic also appears on his website.
At least, his clinic here at Father Griffin Road offers home, out-of-hours, and phone consultations.

How to Choose a Doctor for Your Needs
Aside from finding a capable doctor, you’ll need to consider other factors as well to make treatments more convenient and comfortable:
- Speciality
One of the ways you can start your search is by identifying what kind of doctor deals specifically with your condition. That is if you already have an idea of what you’re suffering from.
For instance, cardiologists mainly deal with heart diseases. If you have a kidney problem, you may need to seek a nephrologist.
Oncologists treat cancer patients; neurologists treat conditions such as strokes, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, and so on.
For women’s health, you may need to visit an obstetrician or gynaecologist. For men’s health, this doctor may be a urologist.
And the list goes on. But if you’re unsure of what doctor is the right one for your illness, we suggest going to a general practitioner first.
- Availability
It’s a good idea to choose a physician that you can reach most of the time. To know this, check their clinic hours.
See if they also practice in other clinics or hospitals, and know their schedules in each. And if you’re working and don’t have much time, inquire if the doctor offers an out-of-hours service.
In addition, don’t forget to ask if online/phone consultations are also available.
- Clinic’s location and amenities
It’s best to pick a clinic that’s relatively near your home as this will make doctor visits more convenient for you.
If you own a car, check for parking space. If you need to bring your children along, see if the clinic is kid-friendly.
Meanwhile, wheelchair access and other amenities for the disabled are things to look for if you’re bringing a patient with disabilities.
- Other considerations
Always phone ahead to know if the clinic accepts walk-in patients. And if they require patients to make an appointment, check if there’s a booking fee.
Also, be aware of their cancellation policy. This means that there may be fees if you cancel an appointment, especially if you do so after the time period they give patients.
