The Best Chinese Restaurants in Galway

There are different kinds of Chinese dishes available globally, but only a few restaurants know how to make them well. Here’s what we used to evaluate the spots on this list:

Authenticity – Chinese food is only as good as how it’s made. To be authentic, regional spices must be used and cooked well.
Menu – There’s a lot of Chinese food in the market, and a great restaurant should have these available and well-served.
Food quality – Chinese food is known for using unique spices and tedious cooking methods, so we checked if the food served was tasty and satisfying.
Ambience – The restaurants must be clean and have a touch of Chinese culture if not inspired by an oriental theme.
Cost and value – We basically checked the overall satisfaction of customers from their dining experience, and whether they get what they paid for.

Located close to the Spanish Arch in Galway, this Chinese restaurant is a very accessible area for your oriental food cravings!

What we love most about this place is the great presentation of the dishes. They’re not only cooked and served like regular meals, but the plates are intricately prepared to highlight the main ingredient of the dish.

Our favorite on the menu is the Crispy Tofu Bao with pork, fresh vegetables, and a sauce topped with sesame seeds. This dish is great as a starter and as a snack for any occasion.

If you’re in the mood for a strong-tasting pork dish, we suggest trying the Mala Spicy Pork with fresh chili, leeks, and marinated pork. The sauce is made of dried chili, Sichuan pepper and other Asian spices.

We also like the vegan food options that are made of fresh ingredients mixed with a variety of spices like the Wok Fried Yuba. Not only that, but the servings are big and will surely fill your tummy.

Not to mention, the restaurant is clean, spacious and airy. There are also plenty of tables and there are hanging Chinese decorations to make the Chinese dining experience more authentic.

However, accessing this restaurant online is a bit challenging because its website takes too long to load or cannot be opened at all. The menu is also unavailable on its social media pages.

But because it’s a lovely restaurant with a real Asian menu, we’d consider going back here again.

Pros

  • Authentic Chinese food
  • Very well-presented dishes
  • Pretty ambience
  • Spacious restaurant

Cons

  • Website is not always accessible
  • Menu not available on social media

Bursting with flavors

“One of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever eaten in, and I’ve eaten in quite a few, fantastic dishes bursting with flavour and portion sizes that leaves your belly bursting afterwards also. The strawberry chicken was a sweet and savoury unique dish that was perfectly balanced and the shredded chicken had that the spicy flavour that left the tongue drooling for more…” – Sean Og

Really nice presentation

I have been there several times now and that has always been really nice experience! The waitresses are lovely, they check on you regularly to make sure you don’t need anything! The food is great, really nice presentation, good portions! Shout out to barman who make the cocktails, they are absolutely divine!!” – Ophélie Nicolas

If you’re looking for affordable Chinese food with many options, we recommend dining at King Ding Chinese Restaurant in Gleann Dara.

We like how the menu has a lot to offer, starting with the 21-choice Starters of crispy chicken and seafood, rolls and duck. The starter dishes are also served with their own sauce to better enhance the flavors.

When it comes to the main dishes, it’s a great thing that King Ding Restaurant allows customers to choose their protein and sauce. You’ll also have a choice between rice or chips as sides.

Eating Chinese food is incomplete without trying sweet and sour combinations. Our favorite of this type in the menu is the Sweet and Sour King Prawn which is crispy and oozing with King Ding’s house special sauce.

To add, the food is not pricey and you can still have them served with original Chinese oyster sauce and Asian spices. In fact, the menu has Thai Noodle boxes that use famous Thai chili sauce mixed in wok-fried egg noodles.

We also appreciate this Chinese restaurant’s inclusion of purely vegan food like stir fried mixed vegetables and tofu dishes. However, their rice dishes are sometimes undercooked.

If you don’t feel like going out to dine, you can download the app to order and track your meal or just order on its website. Take note, it only opens late at 3:00 p.m. but it’s open daily and until midnight, so your order will surely be accommodated.

Pros

  • Extensive menu
  • Delicious affordable food
  • You can choose a sauce for main dishes
  • Has own mobile application

Cons

  • Undercooked dimsum
  • Inconsistent fried rice quality

Asian Tea House along Mary Street is a good place for a late afternoon until midnight dinner or getaway with your friends.

This place has a good selection of Asian food, especially Chinese cuisine, that can fill your tummy as you enjoy the variety of cocktails offered in its bar. Not only that, but the dishes are first-rate and served in a lovely manner.

In our opinion, the most irresistible item is the Crispy Soya Duck Salad because of the tenderness of the duck in Chinese plum dressing. The burst of flavors comes from the duck and fresh mixed leaves, vegetables, and some chili.

Everything in the menu is just mouthwatering, so if you don’t know what to add into your tray, try the classic Si Chiu options. Here, you can choose between chicken filet, ribeye, or tofu that will be cooked with black bean paste and vegetables.

We also like the variety of seafood specialties because they are also inspired by Southeast Asian cuisine. If you ask us, our favorite would be the Mango Seabass that’s served with Thai spicy herbs and fresh salads.

To add, we appreciate that Asian Tea House has its own menu page for vegan food.

The drawback, however, is it only opens at 5:00 p.m. and closes at midnight. Still, we included this in our list because of the fine Asian dining atmosphere it has.

Pros

  • Variety of Asian food
  • Great seafood specialties
  • Vegan-friendly
  • Has own bar

Cons

  • Opens late
  • Short operating hours

Hearty portions

We absolutely loved the food and the mocktails here. Portions are hearty and the extensive menu means we will keep coming back to try more and more. Recommend the spring rolls and the roti with pretty much anything you order as they are yummy! The decor of the restaurant is very chic and staff are most attentive.” – Kornelija Norkeviciute

Great tasting food

Great tasting food and friendly staff. Asian Tea House is kinda off the beaten path, but if you’re looking for some excellent Chinese food, check this place out. Great taste and large portion for the price. We started with the Crispy Duck Egg Rolls which were perfectly cooked. I had the Szechuan Beef with fried rice added as a side. Again, perfectly seasoned and wonderful tasting. For dessert, I had the Light Yogurt Oreo Cheesecake with a scoop of ice cream. Was refreshing, light and tasted great. Will definitely head back tp this fine establishment before we leave.” – William Clarke

Authentic Chinese food takeaway and delivery at a very affordable cost is what Golden Mountain in Galway has to offer.

This place has a menu of all types of Chinese favorites ranging from street foods and snacks, to classic duck and spare ribs dishes. Even if the place doesn’t have dine-in services, the food is delivered hot and properly served right into your door.

From its menu, we think the Soo Chow Duck bests other meals because of the juiciness of the roast duck mixed with stir fried vegetables, chicken, and prawns in barbecue sauce. It’s clearly an all-in-one dish for meat lovers.

If you’re an adventurous foodie, we suggest that you try the New Style Szechuan served with rice. We like that Golden Mountain allows its customers to choose between chicken, pork, beef, suck, or prawn for this dish that will be cooked in Szechuan sauce.

We also don’t have any questions about the authenticity and quality of the food. This is because the dishes are prepared by Chinese cooks.

Moreover, ordering is really easy with just clicks away through its online ordering platform. Card payments are also entertained for customers who don’t have an exact bill amount in cash.

One minor issue is the business of its telephone lines during peak hours. Don’t worry, the online ordering is very reliable. In fact, the delivery of food to your door doesn’t take long.

Pros

  • Affordable Chinese food variety
  • Has online ordering
  • Food made by Chinese cooks
  • Allows card payments

Cons

  • No dine in
  • Busy lines

Xian Street Food is a well-known Chinese food hub in Ireland because it has branches in Galway and Dublin. This is because the Xian Street Food it’s a house of Chinese specialties that are crowd favorites.

What made this restaurant one of the best in Galway is its long list of Chinese house specials of all kinds of meat and seafood. Also, it has a Chinese food menu that children and vegans would love.

If you’re into the best noodles, you’ll make a great decision dining here. Xian Street Food makes specialty noodles that are handmade, like the most-loved Biang Biang Noodles in a soup of hot pepper, Chinese spices, and chili oil.

Feel free to try the Paomo Glass Noodle Soup if you’re not into spicy food. The Paomo gets its flavorful soup from fresh beef or lamb and is topped with fresh coriander. We wouldn’t forget pairing this with the Spice Bag of salted chili shredded chicken or chips.

We love that there’s a lot of delightful real Chinese dishes to choose from its menu. Not to mention, the service is really fast considering that the restaurant is open from 12 hours.

However, Xian Street Food should improve its kitchen cleanliness to prevent unwanted objects from being mixed into the food. Also, you may encounter some issues opening its website due to some technical issues.

Nonetheless, the good selection of Chinese food aside from the specialty noodles would make you come back here for another try.

Pros

  • Specializes in Chinese noodle dishes
  • Child-friendly menu
  • Long operating hours
  • Fast service

Cons

  • Erratic website
  • Cleanliness needs improvement
