5 Great Carveries in Dublin for a Sunday Roast
There’s no better meal than a Sunday roast that leaves you full, satisfied, and ready to fall asleep with family and friends. No greater place to experience it than a carvery in Dublin!
Whether you’re craving meat or looking for a new venue for your Sunday roast, here’s a list of some great carveries in Dublin you can check out.
How much does it cost to eat in a carvery?
It’s commonplace for carveries to set a fixed price for unrestricted servings. Similar to buffets, though, this price would be packaged depending on the quality and amount of food.
The Best Dining Experience in a Carvery
Sad to say, not all carveries will provide the best dining experience. There are specific qualities needed to make sure they do:
1. The 51 Bar
MENU | ★★★★ (4/5) |
MEAT QUALITY | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
SIDE DISHES QUALITY | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
AMBIENCE | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
VALUE | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
The 51 Bar is a traditional Irish sports bar, complete with high-definition television screens and a wide range of alcohol. But what makes this bar stand out from the rest is their award-winning carvery, available at lunchtime during the weekdays and on Sunday.
The carvery menu, unfortunately, changes every day. Although they have their menu on their website, they do not update their carvery menu. Instead, you’d have to call in or go to the restaurant yourself to find out.
Finding out may be worth it. If there’s beef on the menu, we highly recommend it. Their roast beef is so soft it will melt on your tongue. Partnered with fresh vegetables and flavorful mashed potatoes, it makes for a beautifully presented, satisfying meal.
Don’t forget to add in a drink! The 51 Bar has perhaps one of the largest collections of alcohol in Dublin, from whiskey to wine. They keep it interesting with a range of craft beers as well. We enjoyed the classic Guinness to pair with any carvery meal.
The only significant downside is that the 51 Bar often has a full house, especially on weekends and on game days. So, make sure to call ahead and book a table for a chance to fulfil your dream of a proper Sunday roast.
Pros
- Affordable
- Delicious food
- Large portions
- Accommodating staff
Cons
- Carvery menu changes daily
- Crowded

Fantastic Fresh Carvery and Plenty to Eat!
“The carvery in bar 51 can’t be faulted. Myself and partner ordered the beef and the turkey, there was plenty of turkey and roast beef on each plate. The beef was so tender and the turkey was cooked to perfection. The veg was fresh and the roasters and mashed potatoes were equally beautiful. The chef was a lovely guy and made sure your plate was as full as you wished and the presentation was also lovely. Unlike other pubs that offer a carvery and just slap everything on top of each other.” — Asher
Great Sunday Carvery
“We were referred to the 51 Bar by a local publican and it is a very popular location, particularly the Sunday carvery. We each had a small roast and they were very excellent.” — John P.
2. The Bell Pub and Restaurant
MENU | ★★★★ (4/5) |
MEAT QUALITY | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
SIDE DISHES QUALITY | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
AMBIENCE | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
VALUE | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
In the heart of Dublin stands the Bell Pub and Restaurant, a charming family-owned establishment that serves traditional Irish cuisine, from the classic selection of alcohol to the time-honored carvery experience.
Like other carveries, they have no definite menu for their carvery on their website. However, unlike others, they did provide a sample. While they’re limited to seven to nine meals, they do have a variety of meats to choose from beef to turkey to chicken.
We really like their Sunday roast, when they usually have a family deal. At a fair price of €39.95, you get to choose two half plates and two fulls. That’s almost €10 a meal! Additionally, considering their massive servings, it’s definitely a deal.
For this, we recommend the classic roast beef and the roast turkey, for their tenderness and smokiness buried beneath large dollops of gravy. As a side dish, pair them with a vegetarian soup, so they would slide down the gullet more easily.
The Bell Pub and Restaurant brings the Sunday roast to another level. Every weekend or so, they provide lovely, live music to blend among their lively chatter. It makes for a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a Sunday roast.
Pros
- Delicious food
- Wide variety of meat
- Accommodating staff
Cons
- Limited online information
- Limited carvery menu
- Carvery available only at specific times

3. The Yacht
MENU | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
MEAT QUALITY | ★★★★ (4/5) |
SIDE DISHES QUALITY | ★★★★ (4/5) |
AMBIENCE | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
VALUE | ★★★★ (4/5) |
Found at the scenic waterfront of Dublin, The Yacht offers a unique experience that blends historical and nautical charm with the traditional Irish carvery, served every day from 12:30PM to 4PM, and towards 7PM on Sundays.
What we like about The Yacht is the diverse menu of meats. Other than the timeless choices of beef, pork and chicken, they also provide fish as an option. They are also served with more elegance, on porcelain bowls and drizzled with sauce.
We’d actually recommend going for their speciality: the fish dishes, such as their succulent baked salmon seasoned with lemon for a delicious tartness. Not only that, we’d suggest eating it at their Upper Deck.
Their Upper Deck is a newly installed dining area on top of the Yacht that provides a stunning view of the city and of the water. It elevates any meal to the height of luxury, even a Sunday roast.
Unfortunately, there are some inconsistencies in quality, from their service to the food. Due to hour rushes, service could grow slow; and food may be served less fresh than expected.
However, these are only at their peaks. Catch the Yacht when you want a different Sunday roast experience.
Pros
- Diverse menu
- Large portions
- Stunning view
Cons
- Inconsistent service quality
- Inconsistent food quality

Great Carvery!
“We have been here a few times for their Sunday carvery dinner. Always great selection and good portions. Staff are lovely and you can ask for a half plate as the full dinner is a lot of food. Turkey, bacon, beef and salmon are usually on the menu as well as lasagne. We will be back!” — Lisa B.
Nicest Carvery Around
“By far one of the tastiest carverys in Dublin and great staff, very welcoming and great views also.” — Adrian M.
4. Fagan’s
MENU | ★★★★ (4/5) |
MEAT QUALITY | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
SIDE DISHES QUALITY | ★★★★ (4/5) |
AMBIENCE | ★★★★ (4/5) |
VALUE | ★★★★ (4/5) |
Fagan’s is a landmark pub, long established in Dublin since 1907, known for the architecture of its time. The interior has been renovated to a more modern look, but the historical touch remains. Stepping inside, it’s like you’ve travelled through time.
However, there is a tradition that has stayed—their carvery. Served every day from 12:30PM to 3PM, towards 6PM on Sundays, they do a buffet-style kind of carvery where guests will line up in front of a table to choose their food from.
The menu varies every day, but they often have the basics of beef, turkey, pork, and lamb with a wide selection of vegetables and a bucket of gravy. Additionally, they also have choices for fish, pasta, and soup.
At Fagan’s, we recommend going for a large and heavy meal, such as their roasted beef with creamy, mashed potatoes, for a more traditional experience. Sitting inside a landmark like Fagan’s, your Sunday roast experience must be fit for a king.
All the while, it is priced affordably, starting at €11.50 for half portions and €16.50 for the full course. These also come with a choice of three vegetable sides as well as three potato sides. Fagan’s is determined to have you leave feeling satisfied!
Pros
- Great atmosphere
- Well-made food
- Unique experience
Cons
- Limited information on website
- Crowded

Best Pub on the Northside of Dublin

5. The Halfway House
MENU | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
MEAT QUALITY | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
SIDE DISHES QUALITY | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
AMBIENCE | ★★★★ (4/5) |
VALUE | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Another restaurant full of history is The Halfway House, established last 1847. Since then, it’s been restored and somewhat modernized to include a beautiful, stained glass skylight. Inside, the ambience is intimate and cozy, stuck in a moment of time.
But their menu hasn’t much changed. They serve their carvery menu every day from 12NN to 7PM, towards 8PM on Sundays, and it constantly varies. But usually, they would rotate between a wide range of meats, like beef, pork, turkey, chicken, and fish.
We really enjoyed their roast turkey in particular, with its crisp skin and tender meat. Never forget to pair it with some roasted potatoes and fresh vegetables for a true and authentic Sunday roast.
In case you’re not sure what to get from their diverse menu, feel free to ask for recommendations from the staff. They’ve long memorized the menu and can help accommodate any of your questions for the best Sunday roast experience.
Unfortunately, since it’s an ancient structure, there are spots where the air-conditioning fails to reach. The temperature in the whole restaurant is uneven. So, make sure to sit at a comfortable spot, and you won’t have to worry about enjoying your meal.
For a private Sunday roast, half-suspended in time, the Halfway House is the carvery to go to.
Pros
- Delicious food
- Lively atmosphere
- Friendly staff
- Historical ambience
Cons
- Carvery menu depends on the day
- Uneven temperature
