Servers are first-class professionals
“It’s easy to see why this place has excellent TA scores, the kitchen team knows how to blend great flavours and the front of house servers are first-class professionals. Aisling was the PERFECT host during our visit. Our Italian food was simple but cooked beautifully. There was plenty of it and it arrived quickly. I’d love to try some of their puddings but was just too full. Prices are a bit on the expensive side, but that’s totally overshadowed by the first-class dining experience.” —machinmad, TripAdvisor

“Excellent service, good food and atmosphere, lovely seafood pasta, nice Bolognese and the 5-star burger was done to perfection, never got [a] burger like that, compliments to [the] chef.” —Dawid Solecki, Google Reviews
2. Locke Burger
MENU VARIETY | ★★★☆☆ (3/5) |
QUALITY | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
VALUE | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
REPUTATION | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
CUSTOMER SERVICE | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Locke Burger started out as a humble food truck in 2018. They have built a loyal following and just two years later, established a full restaurant at the heart of Limerick city.
So, what about Locke Burger made customers love them so much? It’s our opinion that their unique beef patties are an experience in themselves.
Locke Burger uses locally sourced, grass-fed beef that they dry-age for 28 days.
Dry-aging is a common technique for steaks, but not as common when it comes to burgers. We think it’s a brilliant and innovative approach, because the process makes the patties more tender and develop deep flavours.
Besides beef burgers, Locke Burger has chicken burgers on the menu. While regrettably, they don’t have a whole veggie or vegan burger, although they offer a plant-based burger and some gluten-free options.
They also serve a good number of chicken meals and fries. For us, they have decent servings, too.
Another thing that appeals to us about Locke Burger is their monthly specials – we love the thought of having something new to look forward to regularly. Moreover, they have lunch deals that you can get at a lower cost!
To keep their loyal customers, we think that Locke Burger should ensure the consistency of their dishes. There have been comments that sometimes, the food is under-seasoned; and other times, over-seasoned.
We reckon you’d enjoy an al fresco dining experience at their original branch because it’s llocated in the city’s Medieval Quarter, right on the banks of the Shannon river. Meanwhile, their branch at Castletroy features a bigger menu with more family-friendly dishes.
Both Locke Burger branches offer takeout and delivery services.
Pros
- Various beef and chicken burgers
- Decent portions
- Accommodating personnel
- Great for al fresco dining
- Open from Mondays to Sundays
- Takeout and delivery available
Cons
- No full veggie or vegan burger (only plant-based)
- Some comments on seasoning consistency

We shared a feast of burgers, wings, rosemary fries, mozzarella sticks, chikinis and for dessert, a classic Nutella brownie and a cookie pan! Rolled home with happy tummies. 10/10 top-class ❤️” —Emma SLD, TripAdvisor

3. The Spitjack
MENU VARIETY | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
QUALITY | ★★★★★ (4/5) |
VALUE | ★★★☆☆ (3/5) |
REPUTATION | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
CUSTOMER SERVICE | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
The Spitjack is the brainchild of a husband-and-wife team that travelled across Europe in search of the best rotisserie techniques.
As a testament to their ingenuity, The Spitjack opened in 2017 to rave reviews and was named the best brunch restaurant in Ireland at the RSVP Restaurant Awards two years later.
We think that they have a wide and exciting variety of burgers, including rotisserie roasted chicken, sirloin beef, halloumi, and falafel. Be warned, however, that for the beef burger, there is a 20-minute wait period, which some customers may find too long for their taste.
As far as starters and side dishes go, there is an incredible number of options, which is perfect for those who like to mix it up. There is also a children’s menu offered, making them a family-friendly destination.
While their portions are dizzyingly generous, be prepared to part with a large sum of your money. The prices of their menu items lean toward the expensive side.
However, when you dine at The Spitjack, you may be paying for the experience as much as the food itself.
Their interiors are breathtaking, in our honest opinion – it’s no wonder they even earned a local architectural award. Among the impressive features of their space is a skylight garden stocked with gorgeous succulents.
However, we think The Spitjack could do more to expedite the process of seating their customers. Even if you make a reservation, it is likely that you may face a long wait when you arrive.
In any case, you can expect to be welcomed by a warm and kind crew, which perhaps makes the wait bearable.
The Spitjack offers takeout and home delivery options.
Pros
- Decent selection of burgers, including veggie and vegan choices
- Various starters and sides
- Big servings
- Welcoming personnel
- Long opening hours
- Takeout and delivery
Cons
- Expensive dishes
- Long waiting time to get tables

The beef burger is excellent
“I have been to The Buttery many times and I must say it always hits the spot. The cocktail menu is good and the porn star martinis are too tasty. I really enjoyed the brunch menu here. The pancakes are always a good call, but the beef burger is excellent also.” —Orla Shocks, TripAdvisor
All of my orders were great to fill my appetite
“In the search for good food I tried lots of bad food. Today I forgot to bring lunch to work and popped into this place near my work. Ordered a Cajun chicken bun, house soup, and Americano. All of them were great to fill my appetite. Loved the coffee. Can’t wait to go again and try the rest of their menu <3” —Jamiur Rahman Choudhury, Google Reviews
