Bunsen was just named one of the World’s 50 Best Burgers for 2019. Known for their menus barely larger than a business card, Bunsen’s mission is simple: to provide a satisfying meal as quickly as possible.

You don’t want to miss out on this homegrown restaurant’s burgers if you’re in the mood for western flavours. You’ll be impressed at how they’ve nailed the classic American taste.

Bunsen’s menus are so little that you can tell they have few options. There are just two choices for burgers: the standard hamburger and the cheeseburger.

Since they don’t offer a typical veggie burger, lacto-vegetarians may choose to order a grilled cheese sandwich instead. As for sides, they only have fries.

Bunsen doesn’t provide much in the way of originality because of its limited menu choices. With such few items, there are still occasions when customers get incorrect orders, which is a tad disappointing.

Nevertheless, Bunsen’s menu has been lauded for its simplicity. To your delight, the restaurant serves burgers in big portions and at reasonable prices.

Takeout and delivery are also available at their restaurant. To make a reservation for a large party at one of their bigger locations, call the branch directly.

Pros

  • Affordable prices
  • Decent servings
  • Takeout and delivery

Cons

  • Limited burger varieties and sides
  • No veggie options

Son of a Bun first welcomed customers in October of 2015. They quickly won over people’s hearts (and stomachs) as they were awarded the Best Burger at Cork’s first ever Burger Festival in 2017!

In the following year, they also earned the title of the Best Burger in Ireland when the festival expanded countrywide. So, what makes Son of a Bun’s burgers so worthy and lovable?

For one, their beef patties are ground daily on site using only the finest Aberdeen Angus meat. Everything on their menu, from the patties to the sauces, chicken wings, salads, and desserts, is also prepared in-house every day.

We also like how Son of a Bun has over 10 burger choices. In addition to your usual beef and chicken burgers, they offer vegetarian options and Coeliac-friendly dishes.

You can customise your burgers as well by paying a small fee for additional toppings. Even the appetisers and side dishes are overwhelming in their number and variety.

If those aren’t enough, there are limited-edition monthly burgers as well.

With generous portions, affordable menu items, and welcoming personnel, Son of a Bun could make you come back again and again.

The restaurant often plays music and there is a tendency for it to get quite loud though. So if you’re not a fan of this kind of ambience, Son of a Bun may not be the right fit for you.

The restaurant usually gets cramped, too, and sadly, they don’t take bookings. It might be a bit difficult for you to get seats, so avoid their busiest times, which are on weeknights.

Though it’s good that Son of a Bun offers takeout and delivery services!

Pros

  • Several burger choices, including veggie burgers
  • Lots of appetisers and sides
  • Special monthly burgers
  • Affordable prices
  • Generous portions
  • Takeout and delivery

Cons

  • Loud music
  • Place usually gets crowded
  • No bookings

Liberty Grill’s burgers are portioned generously and served with your choice of fries, sweet potato wedges, or a side salad.

For the highest quality flavours, burgers are cooked to order at Liberty Grill.

The Spitjack was founded by a husband-and-wife duo that travelled far and wide in Europe to learn about perfecting the rotisserie cooking process.

To their credit, The Spitjack debuted to tremendous acclaim in 2017, and was recognised as the best restaurant to have brunch in Ireland at the RSVP Restaurant Awards just two years later.

The restaurant offers four kinds of burgers, namely rotisserie roasted chicken burger, sirloin beef burger, halloumi burger, and falafel burger. For the beef burger, there is a waiting time of 20 minutes, and this might be too lengthy for some customers.

As for their starters and side dishes, these come in an astonishing amount of different varieties. A kids menu is also available.

The Spitjack offers generous servings of their dishes, but you might need to bring a big wallet. Their menu items tend to be on the more expensive end.

Perhaps, you’re also paying for the experience when you dine at the restaurant.

You’d be stunned by the beauty and elegance of The Spitjack’s interiors. They boast a beautiful succulent-filled skylight garden and even won a local architectural award.

As lovely as this sounds, The Spitjack could work on getting their customers seated more quickly. Even if bookings are accepted, the wait is usually lengthy when you arrive at the restaurant.

However, you would be greeted by a welcoming staff. The Spitjack also provides takeaway and delivery services.

Pros

  • Decent amount of burger choices, including veggie and vegan options
  • Huge selection of appetisers and sides
  • Big servings
  • Welcoming staff
  • Takeaway and delivery services
  • Long opening hours

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Long waiting time to get seated
