The Best Veterinarians in Dublin

To help you choose the best veterinarian for your pets, we’ve handpicked this unique list according to the following:

Range of services
We considered the range of medical (e.g., vaccinations, surgeries) and non-medical (e.g., pet grooming) services for all sorts of pets (aside from dogs and cats) as well as whether they offer supplementary products (online or in-store pet food, accessories, etc.) too.
Quality of pet care
Since we want to ensure that your pets are looked after by responsible professionals, we took a look at the friendliness and care of the staff as well as the clinic’s permits and licenses.
Equipment and facilities
Since they see a number of different animals on a daily basis, we want to ensure that cleanliness is observed and that they have the necessary state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for minor and major treatments and surgeries.
Affordability and payment options
Since vet bills can get quite high, we considered clinics that were affordable and offered a variety of flexible payment options.
Accessibility
We considered how easy it was to get in contact with them through their communication lines and operating hours as well as the accessibility of their location.

Now that everything’s sorted, here are our top picks of the best vets in Dublin!

Established in 2019, Dublin Bay Vets is still but a young clinic. Though this may be a cause for concern for some, it has employed a number of well-trained and animal-loving vets and nurses.

Past clients that we’ve gotten in touch with can vouch for their dedication and attention to the animals in their care. Hence, it’s no surprise that many of their past clients held no reservations about recommending the clinic.

What we liked about Dublin Bay Vets is that it has a wide range of animal care services such as laboratory testing, vaccinations, dental care, and diagnostic imaging among others.

So, we definitely consider it a one-stop shop when it comes to animal care-related services.

We were also impressed by its variety of methods to help reduce pets’ anxiety during vet visits. This includes segregating areas for cats and dogs, using Feliway and Adaptil diffusers, and playing gentle music among others.

Its deep consideration for your pets’ well-being definitely strengthened the positive impression that it left on us.

We also think that its online booking system is pretty convenient as it allows clients to see all the available time slots and schedule an appointment at their earliest convenience.

However, since the clinic is quite popular, it can be difficult to book an appointment due to the high volume of clients.

Apart from that, it also sells cat and dog food online via its website. However, we find its selection of food and products quite limited, so we hope it adds more items soon.

While we do appreciate that it has its prices displayed on its website, we were a bit bummed that it doesn’t provide any info on flexible payment options.

Pros

  • Complete-service hospital
  • Open 6 days a week
  • Pricing info available
  • Clinic has multiple vets and nurses
  • Online booking available
  • Online store available
  • Employs methods to reduce pets’ anxiety

Cons

  • Young clinic
  • Can be difficult to book due to a high volume of clients
  • No info on flexible payment options

Cannot recommend enough

“Unbelievable service. Everyone is so kind and helpful. They checked up on my sick cat and made both my animals feel comfortable during their visits. They are punctual and have a very easy online booking system. Cannot recommend enough. I hope their high standard of service continues as the clinic continues to grow. Thank you for your care!” -Jenny Stanley

Amazing, attentive and caring vets

“Absolutely stellar service, amazing, attentive and caring vets, knowledgeable and supportive staff. Always reliable in case of emergency and so helpful in timely updates and follow ups.

I’m slightly jealous that my kids can’t get treatment there too ( as we have to put up with the horrors of Temple street and our dog gets a royal treatment at the vets). Absolutely best experience with the vet ever, wholeheartedly recommend!” -Inna Somers

Founded in 1991, the Clontarf Veterinary Hospital is one of the largest animal practices in Dublin. It’s also the winner of the National Stronghold Veterinary Pet Care Award.

It has 4 practices across Dublin: Blanchardstown, Botanic, Clontarf, and Santry. Hence, we don’t think location accessibility should be an issue here.

It’s also worth noting that all of its clinics are open daily and have been inspected and certified by the Practice Accreditation Board of the Irish Veterinary Council.

That said, it does have a large team of 12 vets and 16 nurses. So, you don’t have to stress about the clinic being short-staffed.

As for its services, it’s a complete-service hospital that can provide preventive healthcare, diagnostics, surgery, and dental care for dogs, cats, chinchillas, and other kinds of non-traditional pets.

Its facilities allow for in-house radiology, ultrasound, and the like. Hence, we definitely think its vets will be able to perform adequate assessments of your pet given the high-tech equipment.

However, we were a tad disappointed that the clinic’s pricing matrix isn’t available on its website. We think this could give potential clients an idea of the cost of its services.

Nevertheless, it does have an online payment system available on its website, which is powered by Stripe. Its payment methods include Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, and AMEX.

To add to the convenience its website brings, it also allows you to book appointments online at any of the branches, as well as view all available time slots.

Oh, we also think it’s worth highlighting that the clinic has healthcare plans available for dogs and cats. This includes annual vaccinations and boosters, health checks every 6 months, and discounts, too.

Castle Veterinary Clinic is an independently owned animal care facility that has been serving Dublin and the surrounding areas for the past 25 years.

We find that independently-owned facilities often have more flexibility in terms of structure. We see this with how their consultation time is longer than usual to give ample time to treat your pets in a stress-free environment.

Though quite a small clinic, it doesn’t fall short of medical and surgical facilities. It even has its own in-house laboratory so you won’t have to worry about waiting long for results to return.

We also like that it has quite a large team: 4 vets and 4 nurses. To boot, it’s open daily, so there’ll always be a staff member available to attend to your concerns.

Did we mention that the clinic also offers healthcare plans for cats and dogs? We think that’ll definitely come in handy as you can spread the cost of your healthcare bill and avail of discounted rates.

It’s also great that it has an online booking platform where you can make an appointment based on the available time slots.

However, we were a tad disappointed that it doesn’t have any information on its prices or  payment plans. We think this is useful for potential clients to get a glimpse of what the cost of the services will be.

Pros

  • Clinic has multiple vets and nurses
  • Healthcare plans are available for dogs and cats
  • Online booking available
  • Open daily
  • Longer consultation time
  • Independently-owned facility

Cons

  • Pricing info and payment methods not available
  • No online store

Undoubtedly the best veterinary clinic around

“Castle Vets are undoubtedly the best veterinary clinic around. I’ve been attending with my two dogs for the past 8 years and the team have always been amazing. They really go above and beyond for all their patients and the owners. Even when delivering bad news they are kind, compassionate but professional. Their pet care plans are excellent, and I overall couldn’t recommend them more. Thank you Castle Veterinary team for all that you do!” -Robyn Keogh

Run by brother and sister Liam and Nuala Moriarty, MyVet Clinics offers a wide variety of pet-care services. This includes microchipping, vaccinations, and dental treatments among others.

We also think it’s worth highlighting that its facilities are well-equipped to perform CT scans, lab testing, x-rays, ultrasounds, and surgeries.

Hence, we definitely think that it’s a one-stop shop when it comes to pet-related concerns. To boot, we don’t think location accessibility will be a cause for concern either.

Since opening in 2005, MyVet has expanded to 3 clinics across Dublin and the surrounding area: Lucan, Maynooth, and Firhouse. So you can go to the clinic that’s nearest to your place of residence.

Speaking of convenience, we like that it has an online booking system. Here, you can book an appointment at your earliest convenience based on the available time slots.

But here’s the hitch: it’s currently operating with less staff than usual. Hence, you may experience difficulties booking an appointment, especially considering that it has postponed non-urgent cases.

If you are in need of a vet but your case is not considered an emergency, this clinic might not be able to accommodate you.

On a brighter note, the clinic does offer pet health plans that include a couple of discounts on its services and products, unlimited free visits, and more. Don’t forget to read the fine print carefully, though.

Pros

  • Clinic has multiple vets and nurses
  • Healthcare plans are available for dogs and cats
  • Online booking available
  • Open daily
  • Independently-owned facility
  • Online store available

Cons

  • Pricing info and payment methods not available
  • Currently operating with less staff than usual

Blackrock Veterinary Clinic offers a full range of preventative health, surgical, and medical care services for your pets. It’s open from Monday through Saturday on a strict appointment-only basis.

That said, we found it a bit strange that it doesn’t have an online booking system on its website. So, you’ll have to schedule an appointment the old school way and give it a ring.

While some may find this a tad inconvenient, we think this eliminates waiting times and helps the clinic operate in an organized manner, ensuring that each pet is given ample time with the vet.

Speaking of vets, the clinic has multiple veterinarians and nurses on its team. Hence, you won’t have to stress about the lack of manpower.

They can perform a range of surgical procedures from neutering to foreign body removal. That said, the pet hospital is well-equipped to perform all sorts of treatments and surgeries.

If your pet needs to be hospitalized here, rest assured that they’ll be housed in a temperature-controlled hospital ward under constant monitoring.

The clinic also has an in-house laboratory for testing. So, you won’t have to wait long for results to come back since it’ll only take them 15 to 20 minutes.

We also think it’s worth highlighting that it has an in-house pharmacy where it keeps a stock of medications, vaccinations, and such. This is pretty convenient as you won’t have to look elsewhere once you’ve been given a prescription.

Apart from medications, it also has pet food available. You can order both online and they’ll be available for pick-up the following day.

That said, you can also pay for these via card. However, the clinic doesn’t elaborate much on the details of its payment process, so you’ll have to inquire.

Pros

  • Clinic has multiple vets and nurses
  • Online store available
  • Has in-house pharmacy
  • Appointment-only basis
  • Temperature-controlled hospital ward

Cons

  • Pricing info and payment methods not available
  • No online booking
