The Best Urologists in Dublin
We assessed the best urologists in Dublin based on the following criteria:
1. Dr Nicholas Hegarty of The Mater Hospital

CREDENTIALS | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
SCOPE OF SERVICES | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
ACCESSIBILITY | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
HELPFULNESS | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Since a urinary concern is indeed a private matter for us, Dr Nicholas Hergarty’s kind and considerate nature are appreciated. He was on time for our consultation too!
What’s likeable about him is how he talks and informs his patients. It was easy to acknowledge his expertise because of how professional he sounded.
We also felt secure with this urologist’s examinations because he explained everything after being thorough.
He was even featured on TV in a documentary series as a consultant! This adds to the legitimacy of his credentials because even high profiles trust in his expertise.
From his answers, he said it wasn’t enough to only resolve the current symptoms. We also had to understand the underlying cause of these problems.
And when other specialists are needed to aid in our recovery, patients could also rely on this thoughtful urologist to refer us to other trusted doctors.
His availability and passion to help were commendable too. One of his clients we’ve reached out to even had access to Dr Hegarty via phone at midnight near Christmas!
Doctors who can keep us in the loop are preferable, for sure. Our health is on the line and a specialist like him is someone who can share the same sense of urgency with us.
It was such a delight to consult with him because he’s the type of doctor who can make you feel confident from the start to the end of the procedures.
But, perhaps his staff could do more to parallel this urologist’s valuable skills and personality too. A patient told us that they were disappointed with the junior doctor who assisted them instead of Dr Hegarty.
Overall, Dr Hegarty made us feel at ease so there’s a good chance you’ll like him too! His urology services and expertise in Dublin are highly recommended!
Pros
- Punctual
- Knowledgeable professional
- Kind and considerate

2. Dr Tom Creagh of Beaumont Private Clinic

CREDENTIALS | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
SCOPE OF SERVICES | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
ACCESSIBILITY | ★★★☆☆ (3/5) |
HELPFULNESS | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
If you want a professional urologist with a watchful eye for constant recovery, Dr Tom Creagh of Beaumont Private Clinic is the one to contact first!
He’s usually efficient with the consultations. He looks like he knows what he was doing, especially when explaining the succeeding steps to be done in detail.
It’s understandable that many women may not consider urologists as specialists who can help them too. Good for us, Dr Creagh is actually an expert in female urology!
He mentioned that many women assume having bladder control problems after pregnancy, for example, means nothing can be done. According to him, this is simply not true.
He’s very gentlemanly in nature too. Doctors like him who show genuine interest and empathy in how they deal with their patients are commendable.
It was also a delight for us that he diligently answered a lot of questions on our end. This makes us feel that the value paid for was worth it!
We just wish that his secretary could be more responsive in terms of responding through emails and calls. Some of the patients told us they experienced the same situation.
Don’t get us wrong. According to several of his patients, many procedures of this urologist have gone pretty well.
However, his staff could do better regarding customer care. We believe this could either make or break a patient’s trust at the end of the day.
All in all, if you want to talk to a urologist in Dublin who’s keen on details, consider getting in touch with Dr Creagh for a consultation.
Pros
- Wide scope of expertise including female urology
- Detail-oriented
- Efficient with service
- Caring and helpful
Cons
- Follow-ups may take weeks
- The secretary may not be very responsive at times

CREDENTIALS | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
SCOPE OF SERVICES | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
ACCESSIBILITY | ★★★☆☆ (3/5) |
HELPFULNESS | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Some may deal with fear or anxiety, especially coming to a urologist for the first time. However, Dr Barry Jones is a gem who can ease our struggles.
With an attentive doctor like him, the situation for patients can be tolerable. This is because he’s a good listener who shares lots of details during consultations.
Some patients also told us they can vouch for how helpful he is.
One of them had a day procedure and Dr Jones ensured the delivery of results was quick and efficient. This is so this patient didn’t have to come back unless needed.
He also told us that he prioritises for his patients to go back to their normal activities such as sports and going to the gym. From his interviews, getting older should not be considered a bad thing.
He seems to be a progressive specialist too! We found his special interests innovative, as these include new technologies for certain procedures like treating Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).
This mindset is commendable, as it seems that he has an open mind. We believe he’s the type of urologist who can keep on improving with the times.
But one drawback to mention, though, is he may not be the quickest when it comes to replying to emails or enquiries. This can be challenging for some especially when an immediate follow-up is required.
But altogether, you should give Dr Barry Jones a shot if you want a more innovative take on your symptoms.

4. Dr Robert Flynn of Beacon Hospital

CREDENTIALS | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
SCOPE OF SERVICES | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
ACCESSIBILITY | ★★★☆☆ (3/5) |
HELPFULNESS | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Another urologist who can boost your confidence during consultations is Dr Robert Flynn of Beacon Hospital.
What’s admirable for us is that his area of expertise includes minimally-invasive surgeries such as Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery, Stone Disease, and Neuro-urology.
We believe that these options are highly preferable to others. In dealing with urinary and reproductive concerns, these may negate the discomfort the symptoms already bring to patients.
His knowledge of the field also makes him trustworthy. His academic achievements, including over 20 peer-reviewed publications, are remarkable!
Additionally, due to his experience as a Clinical Senior Lecturer, we suppose this also helped him hone his skills in explaining complicated matters well to his patients.
But even if he’s an accomplished man, his humble and reassuring nature still shines through. Several of the patients told us that they enjoyed his friendliness overall.
Just one thing to note – it might be challenging to reach him at times. But once you get over this hurdle, his excellent services can raise your spirits again.
The ability to make tense discussions a lot calmer is a skill that not all healthcare providers possess. But with Dr Flynn, this seems like a piece of cake.
Pros
- Academic achiever
- Friendly
- Focuses on minimally-invasive procedures
- Can calm tense discussions
Cons
- Challenging to reach him at times
- Mismanagement of the hospital may come into play

ACCESSIBILITY | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
HELPFULNESS | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
It’s great to have a variety of options to treat sensitive symptoms for urinary issues. For this, Dr David Mulvin of St Vincent’s University Hospital has more than enough on his sleeve!
He’s the kind of doctor who willingly explains every option available for our comfort and convenience.

This includes his broad knowledge of robotic surgery, in which he assured us that this could be a nicer procedure for many. He elaborated how it can cause less trauma and younger surgeons are more amenable to this idea.
The way that he’s keen on aftercare wherein he carefully monitors his patients’ progress is also worthy of praise. For him, active surveillance is a must to fully recover.
