The 5 Best Home Insurance Companies in Ireland Every Homeowner Should Know

Better safe than sorry applies to just about everything in life. Your health, your finances, and your home—arguably the biggest investment of them all.

After more than a decade of proper adulting, one thing’s clear to me: the bigger the commitment, the stronger protection it needs. And when that commitment is a house, cutting corners isn’t really an option.

That’s why my team and I reviewed the best home insurance companies in Ireland for homeowners, landlords, and renters looking for solid coverage at a reasonable price. Keep reading to find out which provider might give you the best value for your home.

How much does home insurance cost in Ireland?

Home insurance in Ireland costs around €250 to €700 per year, with the average premium sitting at about €430 annually for a standard policy. It depends on factors like your home’s location, rebuild value, security features, and claims history.

How We Chose The Best Home Insurance Companies in Ireland

Coverage options – The provider should offer a wide range of home insurance plans, from basic protection to comprehensive coverage, including protection for the structure, personal belongings, liability, and additional living expenses.
Financial strength and stability – We considered insurers with strong financial ratings and long-term stability, ensuring they have the resources to pay claims even after large-scale disasters or unexpected events.
Claims process – We evaluated how easy it is to file a claim, the speed of claim assessments and payouts, and how clearly companies explain requirements, timelines, and next steps during the process.
Accessibility – We reviewed how handy it is to manage policies through online platforms, mobile apps, or local agents, including access to documents, billing, and updates without unnecessary complexity.
Availability and response time – We prioritised companies that provide reliable customer assistance, emergency hotlines, and fast response times, especially during urgent situations such as property damage or natural disasters.
Price – We compared premiums across providers to companies offering competitive pricing, flexible payment options, and discounts for bundled policies, security systems, or claim-free histories.

We love how AA Ireland Limited is incredibly client-centric, based on the inclusions and policies they include. That said, they’re able to craft tailored policies for each home since they partner with established insurers, so you’re getting competitive options.

Many policies include built-in emergency home assistance, helping with unexpected issues like plumbing or electrical emergencies. Cover is subject to policy terms, conditions and limits.

Speaking of standard policy, kudos to them for including benefits we don’t always see elsewhere, such as fire brigade charge cover, frozen food protection, garden contents cover, and even title deeds replacement.

The best part? If your home becomes uninhabitable due to an insured event, the policy can cover the cost of temporary accommodation, subject to policy terms and the Buildings Sum Insured. The policy includes cover for home office equipment up to €4,000 (subject to policy terms), which can be particularly valuable for those working from home.

Overall, AA’s team is known for being responsive and helpful, providing clear information without unnecessary jargon. Just note that they’re closed on weekends.

Pros

  • Strong emergency assistance
  • Wide range of practical benefits
  • Flexible coverage
  • Protection for home office equipment
  • No-claims bonus protection
  • Alternative accommodation coverage

Cons

  • Closed on weekends

Very efficient and quick

Just a phone call away

“From start to finish the AA staff gave me 100% service . It such a comfort to know they are just a phone call away 24 hours a day”

If you want clear, straightforward protection that takes care of common risks like fire, theft, escape of water, and storm damage, then OUTsurance Ireland is a dependable pick. The clients we chatted with also shared how the policies were explained clearly by the staff.

And because they sell policies directly rather than through brokers, you can expect to deal with just one provider from initial quotes to claims support. This means fewer handoffs between companies and fewer intermediaries, leading to faster communication and resolution.

We also like that you can further customise your policy with optional extras such as accidental damage, portable items cover, and garden equipment protection.

It’s also worth noting that they have a unique cashback system. You can get 10% of your premium back in cash after three claim-free years, putting actual money back into your bank account.

On the flipside, if you make a claim, the cycle restarts, and you’ll lose your progress toward the cashback reward. Either way, you still get to receive reliable policies and appealing perks.

Pros

  • Straightforward coverage
  • Offers flexible add-ons
  • Direct insurer model
  • 10% cashback after 3 claim-free years

Cons

  • Cashback benefit resets after a claim

Extremely competitive quote

“Excellent service the agent Eric was very friendly and efficient to deal with. Extremely competitive quote compared to other insurance companies .. would recommend to others and will try them for house insurance quote when my policy is up for renewal.”

– Michelle Long, Google Review

Simple and quick process

“Very pleasant dealing with Shania, simple and quick process to take out a new policy for Home Insurance. We also made a substantial saving compared to our old policy that was due for renewal. Thanks OUTsurance!”

What’s neat about Quoteme.ie Insurance is that their broker model allows them to compare home insurance quotes from multiple insurers across the Irish market. They pretty much do the bidding for you: comparing rates, inclusions, and what works best for you.

Their team has the know-how to access discounts like alarm installation savings, no-claims bonuses, and bundling incentives that might not always be upfront when buying directly. It acts like a hack that significantly reduces annual premiums without sacrificing protection.

Another feature we love is how they actively review policies at renewal and shop for alternative quotes at better values. This sort of automatic renewal check can help you save without needing to switch providers manually every year.

Here’s the thing, though: they don’t underwrite policies, so claims are handled by the insurer, which might confuse you if you want to file a claim.

Still, working with multiple insurers also helps them find coverage for properties that are harder to insure or require tailored solutions.

Pros

  • Competitive discounts across insurers
  • Flexible solutions
  • Automatic renewal checks
  • Informative insurance specialists

Cons

  • Not a direct insurer

Excellent, professional, and quick service

“Excellent, professional and quick service. I feel they are definitely the best in providing the most competitive insurance quotes, depending on your needs. I’ve been with them for the past 10 years and would say I’ve saved €€€ in both car and home insurance.”

– Seamus Ryan, Google Review

Always shop around and get us the best value quote

“I would highly recommend quote me.ie insurance brokers. We have been with them now quite a number of years for the house insurance. They always shop around and get us the best value quote. It’s easy to contact them and they are very responsive and always ring you back if requested. Today the agent was Eveleen Carroll and she was polite courteous and very professional overall. She was very thorough and explained all the various aspects of the quote. Keep up the good work.”

True to its name, Insure My House specialises in house insurance, which means its team focuses on this rather than a general insurer handling many unrelated products. You can rely on them to have a better grasp of rebuild costs, property risks, and coverage gaps.

It also helps that the company compares policies from over 20 home insurance providers, so you don’t have to go through the hassle of contacting insurers individually. With this, the specialists can build policies around your specific needs so you won’t have to pay for unnecessary extras.

The range of property types they accept is impressive as well, especially if your house doesn’t fall under the typical owner-occupied setup. They have policies for homeowners, landlords, holiday homes, and short-term rental properties like Airbnb listings.

But we feel a bit iffy after hearing some reports about slow responsiveness, especially for those who are asking for updates on renewals.

Nonetheless, we can’t deny that their specialisation in home insurance allows clients to score more nuanced policies.

Pros

  • Access to multiple insurers
  • Accepts a wide range of property types
  • Specialises in home insurance

Cons

  • Not a direct insurer
  • Some reports of slow responsiveness

Cork”

One of the highlights with Brady Insurance is that they fully understand regional risks, such as weather exposure, rural property concerns, and rebuild valuation requirements. Their local expertise guarantees coverage that aligns with Irish regulations and realistic rebuilding costs.

With over 60 years of experience, we also found that they developed stronger negotiating power and have a better relationship with insurers.

So, it’s no surprise that they can help you personalise insurance solutions and adjust them according to your needs. Some of the extras available include fire, lightning, explosion, storm or flood, theft, escape of water or oil, falling trees, and more.

While they do wait for better coverage at a lower price, we’re a bit bummed after hearing reports of slow follow-ups, particularly for more tailored policies.

Regardless, their long history and expertise are a big advantage if you want to look for cheaper alternatives.

Pros

  • Access to multiple insurers
  • Provides personalized policies
  • Understands regional risks

Cons

  • Closed on weekends
  • May need more follow-ups

“Jane & Olivia. Thank you both for all your excellent work in securing fair settlement with my storm damage claim. Appreciate all you efforts on my behalf. Great to have your back. Keep up the great work. All the best. Cathal”

– Cathal Brady, Google Review
