Optilase is one of the first private eye clinics established in Ireland. And good news is, you don’t have to travel far as they have a clinic right here in Cork!
The clinic earns a spot here for many reasons.
First, we’d like to highlight how comprehensive their range of services are. Whether you’re planning to get a laser eye surgery or a cataract treatment, consider the job done thanks to their team of specialists and surgeons.
They have one of the most advanced technologies available in the city, designed to correct vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
Our favourite thing about them is that they provide a lifetime care guarantee to all of its patients. This means that you’re entitled to a free eye enhancement surgery should you need it later on—no time limits nor expiration dates!
Conveniently located at the heart of the city, they’re also open 6 days a week. They also offer obligation-free consultations—no need to worry about shelling out some cash just to see whether you’re qualified for the treatment or not.
We also like that they offer flexible financing plans with a 0% interest rate. What’s more is that you can get tax relief at 20% on the cost of the treatment.
Check out what former patients have to say about Optilase:
“The staff at Optilase Cork are a credit to the company. They made me feel at ease and relaxed throughout the whole process. They covered everything aspect in great detail and I knew I was safe in their hands. I’m so glad I went through with it and the recovery time was very quick. I was back working nightshifts in the hospital after 5 days with no more foggy glasses with the masks! Happy days!” —Sarah Love, Google Reviews
“Cannot thank them enough, the entire process was easy, fast and relatively pain free, vision was perfect and discomfort had stopped about 5 hours after the surgery and since then it’s been better than anything I have ever experienced before. Dr. Tom Flynn is an internationally recognised eye surgeon in his own right. After working at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London—one of Europe’s largest eye centres—he set up shop right here in downtown Cork.
If you’re having problems with cataracts, he is the ophthalmologist to see. To add to that, he also specialises in surgeries for conditions affecting the cornea such as swelling and bulging.
Apart from these, he can also perform vision correction procedures such as laser eye surgeries and phakic intraocular lens implants. From these services alone, we highly recommend him for those who have serious eye problems.
We would’ve liked to see more information about his rates, payment plans, and after-care options from the get-go though. However, he does work with private health insurers so depending on your type of cover, you may be entitled to lesser or even zero costs.
Important to note that Dr. Flynn is also a practising eye consultant at Bon Secours Hospital. So apart from his private clinic at The Elysian, you also have the option to see him there—if you have a referral from your GP, that is.

The clinic has experienced ophthalmologists, optometrists, and orthoptists on its roster. So whether you’re experiencing cataracts or dry eye problems, rest assured that they’ll refer you to a specialist who can take care of your needs.
What sets them apart from other entries on our list is that they have a Rapid Eye Access Clinic service. This provides patients with recently occurring medical eye conditions with a quick ophthalmological assessment within 24 to 48 hours.
Some of these conditions include irritation, infections, sudden onset diplopia or double vision. This clinic is also a huge plus if you want to avoid long waiting times in the hospital.
Meanwhile, the only drawback to this clinic is that walk-ins aren’t accommodated. You’ll need a referral from your GP or optometrist to schedule an appointment.
Furthermore, Cork Eye Clinic is the only centre on our list to offer paediatric eye consultation services. They can accommodate children aged 1 and above with various eye conditions.
So if you have a child or know one who needs this service, this clinic can help you with that. While you don’t need a referral from your child’s paediatrician, take note that they only take patients by appointments.
See what some of their past clients have to say about them:
“I recently had a cataract removed by Mr Golchin. The experience, from start to finish of the procedure, was calm, reassuring and a success. Not only is Mr Golchin an excellent surgeon but also an active listener with excellent communication skills. On any of my visits to his clinic he encouraged questions, listened attentively and continued to reassure me. This was very important as I was extremely nervous about the whole procedure. Mr Golchin performed an outstanding surgery. I had absolutely no pain or irritation, 20/20 vision now in both eyes and feeling 10 years younger. What more can you ask of an excellent surgeon.” —Rose Donnery, Website Testimonials
“It is a great Clinic everyone is very nice there. I had my eyes done and they didnt no what to do for me as they are very nice. I was there this morning. They talk to you and explain everything to you. It is the place to go.” —Joan Driscoll, Facebook
