The Best Construction Companies in Ireland

The 5 Best Construction Companies in Ireland

If you have a construction project coming up, then you’ll need dozens of pairs of hands to make your dream project come to life.

And what more can you ask for when you have the best construction companies in Ireland to help you out? In this article, we’ll discuss them each in detail, as well as answer some common questions about them.

How much do construction companies charge in Ireland?

Budget plays a key role in every project. So before anything else, let’s discuss that first.

In Ireland, construction costs will depend on several factors such as property size, location, finishes, design, materials, and more.

According to McAreavey Construction, building costs can range from €110 to €160 per sq. ft. with builder’s finish. A builder’s finish includes the main elements of a house including flooring, painting, kitchen, wardrobes, and more.

You’ll also have to allot around €15,000 for planning permission fees, engineer site inspections, signing off stage payments, solicitor fees, council development charges, utility connection charges, and many more.

Location also plays an important role in the overall cost. You would be spending a lot more in a project based in Dublin compared to Waterford.

According to the Irish Times, construction costs in Dublin are set at €2,400 per sq. m.

For instance, a three-bedroom house in the Greater Dublin Area would average at around €371,000. For the same quality and house type, it would cost around €250,000 on average in areas outside of Dublin.

So really, there’s no one-size-fits-all construction cost. We recommend contacting your chosen construction company to get an exact quote for your project.

CONTACT DETAILS01 850 3000 | [email protected]
OPERATING HOURSMon to Fri: 8:30 am – 6:30 pm

If you’re looking for a contractor who will take care of your commercial project from the ground up, then Flynn makes a fantastic choice. From pre-construction to fit-outs, rest assured that they’ll work with you through the entire project.

This award-winning construction company is responsible for the Terminal 1 departure hall of Dublin Airport, plus several retail shops around it. This includes Starbucks, McDonalds, WHSmith, Harvest Market, Slaney Bar, and Victoria’s Secret.

From this, you can easily tell that their expertise lies in airport infrastructure. Despite this specialisation, they have projects across different industries, from healthcare to hospitality.

But perhaps the biggest thing that impressed us was their commitment to sustainability. What this means is that they set annual targets to lessen carbon emissions.

One way they do this is by reviewing their energy sources in their business approach. This also applies to their businesses across the UK and Europe, since they operate abroad too.

You don’t often come across a net zero contractor such as them, which is why we didn’t hesitate to give them a spot on our list!

The only major downside with Flynn is that they don’t really do residential projects. We noticed that they work best for major projects too, so don’t hesitate to skip this one if you’re not looking for those.

Pros

  • Award-winning company
  • Specialises in airport infrastructure
  • Sustainable approach
  • Has branches in UK and Europe
  • Large team

Cons

  • Not ideal for small-scale projects
  • Doesn’t cover residential projects

For those residing around Limerick (or planning to relocate there), this one’s for you! Whether you’re planning a new build or perhaps an extension, DL Construction specialises in residential construction from planning, right down to finishing touches.

Now, this construction company may not be as big or as well-known compared to others, but there’s something about smaller businesses that’s very appealing too.

From our experience, smaller companies give more personalised services, which also cuts a lot of red tape that’s often associated with large corporations.

And we can see that DL Construction’s clients notice the same thing, based on the reputation they’ve built for themselves online and beyond. This is why we were glad to offer them a spot here!

Of course, smaller companies also have their fair share of drawbacks. For instance, their team is significantly smaller than many others, which could mean limited availability at times.

We’ve also noticed that they mostly focus on residential work, not so much on commercial projects. But seeing that they’re a relatively new company (less than 5 years old), we can understand why they haven’t branched out yet.

They do work alongside architects and interior designers, so no project is completely closed off. In fact, they also cover projects around the Munster region, so you can say that their scope is pretty wide.

You can schedule a free consultation with them to see whether they make the right fit for you or not.

Pros

  • Specialises in residential construction
  • Covers projects around Munster
  • Caters to interior/exterior design consultations
  • Free consultation

Cons

  • Limited availability
  • Not suitable for commercial projects
  • Lacks information on sustainability

Customer Reviews

Quality of work was at the highest standard

“Would highly recommend DL Construction. They completed a substantial turnkey project in 2019 for us. From our initial meeting to project completion their professionalism and quality of work was at the highest standard. The project was delivered on time and within budget. Along with the construction they Project Managed the engineering and the final fitout (Tiling, Painting, Kitchen) and provided great guidance along the way. Their team are a pleasure to work with and we are truly delighted with the outcome.” —Adrian Broderick, Google Reviews

Team went the extra mile

“Just like to write a few words of praise for the professionalism & quality of work that DL Construction showed during the tender, quote, construction & completion of our extension. Throughout the project Diarmuid & Liam showed patience and understanding to our needs and truly listened and adapted to our requests as the build grew.. We were under time constraints (Aren’t we all!) with a newborn on the way but the team endeavoured to finish on time and leave the house in an immaculate condition once building had finished. It is a bit of a cliché to say the team went the extra mile but I can honestly say they did and as such, deserve the reputation they work hard to protect and exceed. I would have no hesitation in recommending the company and would be happy to answer any questions that a prospective customer may have.” —Dean Rice, Google Reviews

This company even has their own interior design firm, which truly makes them a great choice for clients who wish to get construction and design services in one place.

Like most of our entries here, McAreavey Construction also plays a part in being sustainable as much as possible. This is why they specialise in new-build energy-efficient homes.

In fact, they actually build all new homes to a minimum Building Energy Rating (BER) A3, which sits among the gold standards when it comes to energy efficiency—and we’re really impressed by this!

We’ve heard many good things about them, like how responsive and approachable they are no matter how big or small your concern is.

But as we mentioned, small businesses may also have relatively limited manpower, which means availability can take a toll here.
