Let’s proceed!
Cost of Cheese Tasting in Dublin
There are different ways in which you can do cheese-tasting in Dublin, or in Ireland really. One, there are actual cheese-tasting tours, and two, visiting cheese shops that offer cheese-tasting events or packages.
For a cheese-tasting tour, it usually means going on a farm or brewery tour. This usually ends with cheese-tasting or cheese and wine tasting, and the average minimum cost is around €10.00.
Regarding cheese shops, most of them allow you to try the cheeses in-store for free before you purchase, while also giving you advice regarding which cheese is best for what. Some also send you a cheese sampler monthly for the price of €35.00.

The following criteria will be used to review the best cheese-tasting shops in Dublin:
1. Sheridans Cheesemongers

Variety | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Quality | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Staff knowledge | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Testimonials | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Sheridans Cheesemongers is one of the leading cheese places in Dublin, hence it’s a household name in the city. It houses not only a wide variety of cheeses, but also other products such as drinks, meats, seafood, antipasti, chocolates, and breads.
What we love most about it is the same thing its loyal customers love about it: the knowledge of the staff. They know everything about the products they offer, most especially cheeses, so they can provide you with any information you need.
In fact, when you go to the store and browse through their cheeses, they’ll guide you all through the cheese tasting. While you sample pieces of cheese to help you decide which to buy, they’ll discuss things like where they’re used and what to pair with them.
Another thing that makes us love Sheridans is that it has a cheese club. The shop chooses four to five cheeses monthly, puts them in a sampler package, and delivers them to you!
We think the Irish Food Festival might interest you as well. A lot of local businesses can showcase their cheese products, and you can get a free taste before you buy.
The shop also has an amazing delivery service—they’re very thorough and make sure they’ll deliver the correct orders. However, there are delays sometimes, which can be a turn-off since it might affect the quality of your orders.
Also, just a little heads-up that the store can get crowded at certain hours. It’s a pretty small shop despite the variety of products it houses.
Pros
- Has a wide range of cheeses available
- Has a cheese club that delivers four cheeses for tasting monthly
- Holds Irish food festival
- Offers other products
- Staff know their cheeses
Cons
- Can get really crowded since it’s pretty small
- Delays in delivery

Offers a plethora of products, not just cheeses
This is a must-visit for any cheese lover. Nick was kind enough to help me find some amazing local cheeses to bring home with me. The varieties ran the spectrum from cow to sheep to goat, both young and aged. They also have a plethora of other gourmet products, so if you are a cook, or love to cook or eat, make sure you stop in. I grabbed some local salt too.— Lamb Gal, Google Reviews
Knowledgeable staff
We had a very knowledgeable employee that let us sample cheeses. He helped us pick primary Irish cheeses and meats so I could sample what the country had to offer. Whether you are visiting or from Dublin. Do yourself a favor and visit this place. It’s amazing!— Rebecka Montgomery, Google Reviews

Loose Canon Cheese and Wine isn’t just a wine and cheese shop, you can actually dine in and enjoy your cheese-filled food and pair it with a good wine. This is what makes it different from other cheese-tasting shops.
Chatting with a few of the customers let us know what they love about the place, giving us an idea if it’s a good place to recommend to you. And it is!
For one, the place has a good selection of not only cheeses but wine as well. They have the best charcuterie board selections that’ll make you drool once served and don’t forget the cheese toastie, which is everyone’s favorite it seems.
In addition to this, we also like the thought that the shop changes menu frequently. This allows the patrons to experience different types of cheeses as well as combinations.
The ambience during the day is quite casual and airy, which makes it a good place to take your lunch. At night, it becomes intimate but also crowdy—long queues outside and there are few seats available, forcing you to enjoy your wine on the sidewalk.
The staff are friendly and very accommodating. We also love that they know the products their shop’s selling so you can ask them anything and expect a proper answer.
Speaking of expectations, you should also probably expect that you’ll pay more when you visit Loose Canon. Everything about it is pricey.
Pros
- Good selection of cheese and wine
- Serves the best charcuterie board
- Intimate ambience
- Friendly staff
- Arguably the best cheese toasties in town
- Changes menu frequently so customers can have a variety of combinations
Cons
- A little overpriced
- No places to sit or drink

Tasty charcuterie board selection
We shared a very tasty charcuterie board! Bread, meats, and cheese were all paired so well and full of flavour. I asked for a rose and red wine they would recommend and both were perfection! Highly recommend but they are very busy, long queues and very little seating so you will more than likely be standing on the street.—Darragh Gallagher, Google Reviews
Serves fresh cheeses
A banging selection of cheeses, toasties & wines. Old school small deli atmosphere paired with a modern seating area looking out to Drury Street. If you’re looking for a proper, butter-brushed cheese toasty in Dublin, this is the place. An ever-changing daily menu utilising their range of artisanal cheeses showcases the deliciousness of their products in a way that leaves your mouth drooling.—Hugh, Google Reviews

5. The French Paradox

Variety | ★★★★☆ (5/5) |
Quality | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Staff knowledge | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Testimonials | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
The French Paradox isn’t your typical cheese-tasting shop—in fact, it’s more of a restaurant than a shop. However, the restaurant serves fresh and good cheeses and the best thing about it—is they’re served with good wine!
The restaurant, by the way, is known for its wine selection. Any type of wine you want, you can probably find in this restaurant.
Some of the customers we talked to told us they had held wine events at the restaurant quite a few times. Prior to the event, they were given a variety of cheese plates and wine to sample so that they could choose which they wanted to be served.
What we appreciate about this is that the staff are knowledgeable about everything. So while you’re doing your wine and cheese tasting, they will tell you information about them and suggest which went well together!
The way they set up the events is worth commending them for as well—everything’s organised. The cheeseboards and wine are also presented properly and with elegance, making the experience lovelier.
The only con we see is that one, the restaurant’s only open 5 days a week. Most of us are available on weekends, and this limits your options for a scheduled visit.
Pros
- Helpful staff
- Offers a good selection of wine and food
- Serves fresh cheese and meat boards
- Elegant set-up
- Recommends wine and cheese pairing
- Knowledgeable staff
Cons
- Only open 5 days a week
- Website needs more information about what the place offers

Gives great advice on wine and cheese pairings
Any time I’ve visited French Paradox I’ve had a great experience. The place has a relaxed atmosphere. The staff are experts in terms of advice on wine pairings. Feels like you are walking into France!—Isobel, Trip Advisor
Great attention to details
They were kind enough to host a wine tasting for my wife’s 45th birthday, and Jacques and the entire staff (including the restaurant upstairs) made everything perfect from start to finish; arranging it, discussing wine options, adding a cake and some cheese plates to the evening, everything. Utterly flawless. Jacques is a consummate professional with an encyclopedic knowledge of wine, a great sense of humor, a friendly and welcoming demeanor, and a clear passion for his work. The whole night was a lesson in all things French wine and an amazing tasting experience.—David Hansell, Google Reviews
