1. Hosting Ireland

Hosting Ireland has been providing website builders, hosting services and domain name registration in Ireland for more than 15 years. The company’s stability is a plus, but the primary reason why we picked them is, they have one of the lowest rates in Ireland.

As it is, using a website builder is a lot cheaper than a customised website built by a developer. But Hosting Ireland website builders are even more cost-effective than most builders.

While others offer builders that can be purchased for as low as €7 to €9 per month, theirs is just €5.95. And that’s already for a 3-page site that includes 1GB of disk space, an email address, unlimited editing, 25MB of image upload limit and widgets.

For that amount, the website you’re going to build is mobile responsive too. This feature is very crucial especially these days when almost everything is done on every type of screen imaginable—like smartphones.

Most people use their phones to search for products and services, so your site should render on small screens without issues. The mobile responsive feature of their builder should be able to address that.

But if you want more than those standard features, Hosting Ireland has other plans: Starter and Premium. They’re a bit more expensive than the 3-Page plan (€7.95 and €10.95 respectively), but it’s packed with extra features that allow unlimited pages and even HTML/CSS editing among others.

We’ve heard that their hosting is also excellent. Their data centre is in Dublin, so if your traffic usually comes from within Ireland, then their load times would definitely be lightning fast.

We’ve received some reports, though, that their support isn’t particularly impressive. If you want to avoid waiting for half a day for a response, it’s best to always choose “high” in the priority box.

Pros

  • Responsive designs
  • Customisable features
  • Offers domains, hosting and other services
  • Upgraded plans available
  • Excellent support
  • Fast load speed for users in Ireland

Cons

  • No free trial
  • Some reports of bad customer support

Customer Reviews

Supportive and helpful

“I’m a designer. I have used this company for myself and my customers for years. I have found them extremely helpful. My customers have also found them supportive and helpful when asking questions outside their own knowledge. I’ll continue to recommend them.” – Juliette Moreau, Website Planet reviews

Prices are great, services are also excellent

“The prices are great with this company. The services are also excellent. The only thing I didn’t like was that it took me a while to figure out how cloud hosting worked. I ended up having their technical support teams explain it to me. Once I understood, I signed right up and have been very happy with their services. One of the best in Ireland.” – L. Grusnik, hostadvice reviews

2. GoDaddy

If you’re not tech-savvy but want to build a website fast, GoDaddy is the answer. What makes it fast is how simple and easy it is to use.

Because it’s aimed at beginners, it has a dead-simple editor. Just drag and drop pre-designed content blocks to your page and that’s it.

The sidebar editor isn’t overwhelming either. Even advanced options like image focal point adjustment, adding popups and such don’t really feel “advanced” if you know what we mean.

The builder is also mobile responsive and has decent eCommerce tools.

But of course, this simplicity comes with a few drawbacks. For instance, if you’re looking for advanced customisation, you’ll have to look for it elsewhere because GoDaddy, like we said earlier, is simple.

They have some nice templates, but there aren’t that many to choose from (over 20) And the themes have some pretty major customisation limitations (like being unable to change colours and fonts).

In terms of pricing, they offer a free plan—well, it isn’t really free in the real sense of the word. More like a free trial plan and free domain name which you need to upgrade if you want to keep it.

But the prices of their paid plans aren’t really bad. The basic package starts at €9.99 and for that, you’ll get editing on the GoDaddy app, domain name, hosting, and linking to a social media account.

Ecommerce tools and other marketing features are excluded. If you want access to those, it’s available in one of their higher plans.

Still, regardless of the limitations we’ve mentioned, we can say that overall, GoDaddy website builder is a great option for beginners. It especially fits those who either need a simple business site or a placeholder to use while they build a more complex website.

Pros

  • Simple interface
  • Easy to use editor (drag-and-drop style)
  • Decent ecommerce tools
  • Mobile responsive
  • Low-cost
  • PLan upgrades available
  • 24/7 support

Cons

  • Limited customisation
  • Limited number of templates
  • More expensive compared to others

Customer Reviews

User-friendly

“Highly effective, Versatile, User-friendly tool to make websites. The thing I don’t like with the Godaddy website builder is, it is not possible to do lots of customization as compared to WordPress CMS.” – Jatin M., G2 Reviews

The drag & drop feature is awesome

“The drag & drop feature is awesome. Any guy without having any technical knowledge can build a website for their business. There is no option to switch between multiple themes and they need to add some helpful notes for the items so that guy who doesn’t have any knowledge can start with this easily.” – Ankit K, G2 Reviews

There’s a reason why prices of products are low; one thing or another always has to be sacrificed. LetsHost website builder has negatives too, but not when it comes to templates.

While others have a limited number of templates, LetsHost has a huge selection—literally thousands for you to choose from. The templates are varied so you’ll surely find something that fits your company.

We also like that many functions can be customised. Backgrounds, fonts and colours can be edited to your liking.

But don’t be intimidated when we say “customise” because this builder is easy to use too. You can move text and add photos by dragging and dropping or cutting and pasting.

Just a few quick clicks and you can add videos, social media plugins, maps and forms. It’s really for users of all skill levels.

Since the templates are customisable, is it expensive? Well, the prices of the plans aren’t as cheap as the others, but considering what you’ll get, we think it’s worth it.

The Starter plan is €7.99 per month and for that, you’ll get a mobile-compatible, search engine-optimised site. This plan also allows you to sell up to 10 products.

They have upgraded plans if you think your needs are more complicated than that. Their most expensive plan is priced at €47.99 that includes unlimited products, inventory management, and membership registration.

Kinda pricey, but fortunately, they offer a discounted price for all their plans if you pay annually. For example, instead of spending €95.88 for one year for the Starter plan, you’ll only have to pay €87.99 if you pay per annum.

The website builder also comes with hosting which, according to our research, is pretty mixed. They perform better compared to other Irish hosts and are reliable, but there’s definitely room for improvement when it comes to load times.

Pros

  • Highly customisable
  • Thousands of templates
  • Easy to use
  • Plan upgrades available
  • Discounts for annual payment

Cons

  • More expensive compared to others
  • Some reports of slow load times
  • No mention of free trial

It’s hard to imagine a low-cost website builder like Webador can create such professional-looking websites. We’ve seen some and they’re pretty awesome.

You can try it for yourself so you can check. Don’t worry, it’s free.

And it’s not just free for a month. While others offer a one-month free trial (some don’t offer any free trial at all), Webador offers free trial…for three months!

This way you can get a feel of how to use the builder enough to determine if it’s worth upgrading to a paid plan. We think three months is more than enough time to check it out.

So, what’s it like to use? As expected, navigating the builder is pretty easy because it uses a drag-and-drop system.

Linking, adding social media buttons and additional pages can be done in a few clicks. It’s so easy to use you can set up your site in practically just a day, even with no prior web design knowledge.

If you’re a hobbyist or building a personal blog and don’t mind the webador.ie address and having no personal mailbox, then you can stick to the free plan. It’s free forever.

But if you need more, they have plans which include a unique domain or two, web shop and a mailbox. They’re great for both startup businesses and eCommerce sites.

But whether it’s a free plan or a paid one, it comes with free hosting, secure connection, stock photos, responsive templates, unlimited storage and pages. The prices are more expensive compared to others, but there’s a discount if you pay annually so you can save a bit.

What we think it should improve on is the lack of more online payment processors. We’ve also received reports of unresponsive customer support.

Pros

  • 3-month free trial
  • Free plan available
  • Easy to use
  • Includes free hosting for all plans
  • Unlimited storage and pages
  • Discount for annual payments

Cons

  • More expensive compared to others
  • Lack of more online payment processors
  • Some reports of unresponsive customer support

Customer Reviews

Highly recommended

“I have tried other website builders and this is the best. More options and help from webador services inexpensive domains overall highly recommend to others even if not very tech savvy.” – Fiona L., GetApp Reviews

Self-explanatory

“I love using Webador. It’s very self explanatory. My only complaint is that I misunderstood what webshop was and thought I needed the business package. When I realized what it was I messaged support to see about being moved to the pro package and being refunded the difference. I was informed that they try their best to make everything well understood and that they don’t do refunds, etc. So basically, they’re saying that this was my fault because I should have understood all the technical wording. I suppose they just don’t expect someone who is technically challenged in some aspects to set up a website. That is my only issue thus far. Other than that, things have been pretty understandable for the most part. So if you don’t understand what “webshop” means, be sure to ask some young whippersnapper for the definition.” – Tony, Trustpilot Reviews

5. Easy Websites

Easy Websites has one of the lowest prices in website builder plans. And unlike others with limited plans, they have more than the usual number of options.

They have a total of 5 packages (others usually have 3). The cheapest is the Budget plan at €5.99 a month.

If you think that’s cheap, it can go even lower— as low as €3.99 a month—if you sign up for two years. That’s a little over 50% of savings, which we think is awesome.

For that price, you’ll have 7,000 choices of design templates, an email address, the option to add videos, images, social media links and a few other features. For that price, that’s not bad at all.

Of course, you won’t be able to add a shopping cart and other advanced features using that builder. You need the eCommerce plan for that.

The Ecommerce Shopping plan is €11.99 which includes an unlimited number of products, varied payment integrations, a shopping cart and a lot more. It’s the perfect package if you have a large eCommerce site and need to add testimonials to build trust with users.

Like the rest of the builders on this list, Easy Websites’ website builder is easy to use too. You don’t need to install any software—simply log in to your account, pick a design you want and add in your text or content.

The templates can be customised a bit, which is good. But what’s even better is Search Engine Optimisation is included so you don’t have to worry if users can find your website but they sure will.

Our only complaints are, hosting isn’t included in the plans—it’s paid for separately. True, it doesn’t cost much (€1.99 per month for Cloud Hosting), but still, we think it should’ve been added to the website builder plan like with other companies.

Also, they didn’t mention any support. They have FAQs, but we hardly think that’s enough should you encounter any issues.

Pros

  • Low prices
  • Discounted prices for 2-year signups
  • Varied packages
  • Thousands of design templates
  • SEO included

Cons

  • Hosting is paid extra
  • No mention of support

Advantages and Disadvantages of Website Builders

From the sound of it, website builders seem like the perfect solution to building a website. And it is, in a way, but it comes with a few limitations that can be hampering in another major way.

So, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using a website builder? We’ve outlined them below so you can gauge if it’s for you or not.

Easy to use but…

Website builders don’t require coding skills. Most builders have been built with a drag-and-drop system so if you know how to do that, then you won’t have any problem building a site.

But if you have a bit of technical know-how, then you’d quickly learn its limitations. You can’t add tabs, expand and collapse widgets and other restrictions on customising the look you want for your site.

Low-cost but…

Compared to having a developer build a site for you, which can run thousands of euros, website builders are a lot less expensive as you’ve seen from the pricing at the start of the article.

However, a lot of people think they don’t need to pay a cent after joining, which isn’t true. You have to pay yearly to keep your site.

Aside from that, as your website grows bigger, you may need additional features that are not included in the package. To get those features, you’d have to pay extra.

Great-looking template designs but…

Most website builders offer hundreds of great-looking templates. They’re free too.

You can even change the colour combination on some of them and add interactive design elements like buttons and boxes, parallax and effects.

The thing is, that’s how far you’re ever going to get: the provided templates. You can’t create or use your own template or even view the HTML version of the page.

There’s SEO but…

Website builders have essential SEO features such as being able to add a title, description, image alt, tags and such. Most also have SEO-friendly URLs.

However, it lacks a lot of optimisation techniques, like adding an extra URL level, which won’t do if you have a long term SEO strategy.
