University Hospital Waterford is located along Dunmore Road, and it offers a wide range of services from diagnostics to surgery. It has a specialization in rheumatology and other medical fields.

The rheumatology service, along with other medical services, are accessed through the hospital’s emergency services, through a general practitioner, or through consultants. Its consultant for rheumatology is Dr. Claire Sheehy.

We think Dr. Sheehy’s experience as a rheumatologist can guarantee quality service on rheumatology for patients with mild to severe conditions. She is a member of the Irish Society for Rheumatology.

What’s more, she has authored and co-authored a number of studies on arthritis and spondylitis, and their impact on the overall well-being of patients experiencing such conditions.

As for the location, we like that University Hospital Waterford offers many medical services and has an emergency service available 24 hours a day. Moreover, the hospital is known for its attentive medical staff who are well-trained to ensure that patients are well taken care of.

However, the rheumatology service is not specified, so there are limitations to what you can get done at this hospital. The visiting hours are also limited which may be an inconvenience for some people who want to visit their loved ones.

Do remember also that you might want to ask the facility first about the specific rheumatological services and treatments it offers. The reason, the list of its complete services and rates are not available by just looking it up on the web.

Overall, we’d consider this one of the go-to places for rheumatology concerns because of the variety of medical services and the availability of other medical experts.

  • More medical services offered
  • Has emergency services
  • Attentive medical staff
  • Based in a 24/7 hospital

  • Unspecified rheumatology services
  • Limited visiting hours

Since Waterford houses a limited number of rheumatologists, we added in this list some rheumatology experts from nearby cities that can help you manage arthritis, and one of them is Dr. Len Harty of Cork Rheumatology.

Dr. Len Hart is the rheumatologist at Cork Rheumatology who specializes in treating rare and common rheumatic conditions. His clinic is conveniently located at the Elysian Building in Cork, a drive away from Waterford.

We trust Dr. Hart’s expertise in treating conditions like spondylitis, gout, arthritis, and other uncommon conditions. We also like that he has a wide range of  available medications in his clinic.

In fact, he treats at least 21 different rheumatic conditions like those that are rare and require specialist treatment like Polymyalgia rheumatica, Sjögren’s syndrome, and Giant Cell Arteritis.

We don’t have doubts about his qualifications, as he has been awarded degrees and certificates in rheumatic disease and internal medicine since he completed his undergraduate medical education in 2005.

Another good thing we considered is his active participation in the academe and research. This makes sure that patients get up-to-date information on new conditions and treatments to manage rheumatic diseases.

However, we’d like to advise patients to book an appointment with Dr. Hart because he has a busy schedule and can only attend to patients in his clinic on weekdays. He is also the lone specialist in his clinic.

He is close to Waterford and we recommend his services for guaranteed effective treatments.

  • Treats rare conditions
  • Proficient in autoimmune connective tissue disorders
  • Active in the academe and research
