These 5 South Queensferry hotels nearly made us miss checkout!
Ever noticed that some hotels, while modern-looking, just look kind of the same? Boring, right? My friends and I had to deal with this, plus overpriced stays, uncomfortable beds, and unreliable Wi-Fi in so many places.
But we’ve heard good things about South Queensferry, so we went to see the old-world charm it can offer us. And after enjoying multiple weekend getaways for the last 6 months, we think we’ve somewhat become getaway gurus with a top-tier list.
So whether you’re a holidaymaker, tourist, or business traveller, we’ve got you covered with these top-rated South Queensferry hotels below.
How We Chose The Best South Queensferry Hotels
1. Dakota Hotel Edinburgh

Address: Ferrymuir, Queensferry
Phone: +44 131 319 3690
One of the most popular South Queensferry hotels is the Dakota Hotel Edinburgh, and it was easy for us to see why. Unlike traditional (or basic) local inns, this 4-star accommodation exudes modern elegance.
It also offers laid-back rooms showcasing TVs with satellite channels, as well as designer toiletries and bathrooms with monsoon showers that give a relaxing, heavy-rainfall experience.
And when you get hungry, we like the stylish bar and grill on-site, too. We think it looks Instagram-worthy with its exposed brick walls.
Not only that, but we also love the complimentary airport shuttle on weekdays. If you’re a tourist on the go, we bet your travel plans just got a lot easier with this.
There’s only one thing, though. There aren’t that many breakfast options for plant-based food. If this applies to you, we recommend giving the staff a call beforehand to avoid any hassle.
Excellent Accommodations
“Beautiful hotal with excellent accommodations. Conviently located to bus stops and grocery store. Plenty of parking and a gym!”
– Mr. Walter Dinda (Walt), Google Review
Extremely Helpful
“Extremely helpful and accommodating staff. Rooms/hotel is nice and the location is ideal! Would happily stay here again.”
– Ms. Stephanie Whyte, Google Review
2. Orocco Pier Hotel

Address: 17 High St
Phone: +44 131 331 1298, [email protected]
Set on a cobbled street, Orocco Pier Hotel is a 3-star hub that we think is wonderful for budget travellers.
It’s also an 11-minute walk from the Port Edgar Yacht Club and a 15-minute stroll from Dalmeny train station. So if you’re up for some exercise, you can cut costs from your trip.
We reckon artsy guests would appreciate the rooms, too! They showcase modern decor with original artwork. Additionally, it has TVs, free Wi-Fi, and even DVD players for a nostalgic vibe.
Full breakfast is included as well. And when you feel peckish, there are other dining options available, like a cafe-bar and a seafood grill dining spot.
Note that only some rooms offer sea views, though. Pets aren’t allowed either, so it’s best to keep the pups at home or at a doggy daycare if you plan to stay here.
Perfect
“Staff fantastic and friendly. Food reasonably priced good quality. Views scenery room ambience. Was perfect.”
– Mr. Garry Stewart, Google Review
Loved It
“Having stayed here i loved it and since moving to the area its become a regular haunt – amazing breakfasts- great lunches and dinners in antico luscious dining in samphire. Staff are attentive and efficient without being intrusive”
– Mr. Scots Diesel, Google Review
3. Premier Inn Edinburgh

Address: Builyeon Rd
Phone: +44 333 777 4683
Premier Inn Edinburgh is a 3-star hub that we think is a hit for families looking for a fun weekend.
The rooms go from singles to family rooms with 2 pull-out beds. And if your children are under 15? We love that they can stay for free, as long as they’re with paying adults.
Want a productive itinerary? We bet history enthusiasts would love that this hotel is only 1 mi (1.61 km) from the shores of the Firth of Forth estuary, 3 mi (4.83 km) from Hopetoun House rural estate, and 12 mi from Edinburgh city centre.
It’s also relatively close to Edinburgh airport (about 5.8 mi or 9.33 km), so we believe your check-out would be a breeze if you need to hop on the plane ASAP.
There’s also an on-site Brewers Fayre pub restaurant for those who want to loosen up. Breakfast the next day shouldn’t be a problem as well—we find it handy that this hotel provides all-you-can-eat options and lighter choices (at a cost).
Nevertheless, we feel that its decor is slightly dated. There aren’t many scenic sights here either, unlike other waterfront hotels.
Spot On
“Carrie Ann fantastic and very helpful lady behind the desk on entry, made sure my room was spot on which was, and would do anything for you, lovelly service and would highly recommend”
– Ms. Rosie Mackinnon, Google Review
Friendly and Welcoming
“Upon arrival Carrie greated us and checked the location of our rooms. Upon realising that our second room was at the opposite end of the hotel and on a separate floor from our family room, she located a room as close as she could to ensure our eldest daughter was close by. Carrie’s friendly and welcoming demeanor was very appreciated.”
– Ms. Lynnette Killen, Google Review
4. Innkeeper’s Collection

Address: The Hawes Inn, 7 Newhalls Rd
Phone: +44 131 331 1990
Should you want to be near river views, guests at Innkeeper’s Collection are in luck because this charming 3-star spot overlooks the River Forth and the iconic Forth Road Bridge! Perfect for a breezy staycation, in our opinion.
Besides the basic amenities, its casual rooms provide a rustic decor that we find really comforting. Think vintage furniture, exposed beams, and warm lighting.
We also think you’ll start your mornings right because of the complimentary continental breakfast buffet. Later, you can go to the on-site restaurant or bring your pals to the cosy lounge bar with a beer garden.
And if you’re with your significant other, we reckon you’d be happy that this spot is only 8 mi (12.87 km) from the Royal Botanic Garden and 9 mi (14.48 km) from the 11th-century Edinburgh Castle. You can plan amazing dates there!
Nevertheless, many compact rooms here don’t suit big groups. The hotel building is historic in nature too, so soundproofing isn’t widely available.
Great
“The location was very close to everything and the breakfast was very good and the price plus great”
– Ms. Tahereh Sterling, Google Review
Delightful
“Delightful inn on the water. Giant room with a spacious and immaculate bathroom. Great food in the restaurant. Kind and welcoming staff.”
– Ms. Meg Little, Google Review
5. Corstorphine Lodge Hotel

Address: Horizons Head Office, 188 St John’s Rd, Corstorphine
Phone: +44 131 476 7116, [email protected]
Those who want a sneak peek into history must try staying at Corstorphine Lodge Hotel at least once. This quaint 3-star guesthouse is set in an 1880s Victorian townhouse, which we reckon is a lovely alternative to your typical hotel.
We also adore its Victorian walled gardens and a bright sunroom for early morning walks. Basically, it’s like a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. It helps if you can detox from social media here too.
But if you want to go out and have a productive day, we think you’ll like that it’s only 4 mi (6.44 km) from the National Museum of Scotland.
We reckon the relaxed rooms are also ideal for business travellers since they have desks and sitting areas.
But given the homely vibe of this accommodation, we think some rooms could use some minor upgrades. Another thing we feel this historic property could work on is sound insulation, especially if you’re checking in with a fun, loud group.
Very Comfortable
“Our room was a beautiful old worldly, with very high ceilings, large cornice and rosets around the crystal shandalia, bay window which over looks the street. Very comfortable, very helpful staff.”
– Ms. Kaz Colours (K. Appleyard), Google Review
Great Value for the Money
“Great value for the money. Large, clean room with a pretty view overlooking St. John’s Rd. Tiny bathroom/shower, but its an old building converted to a hotel. Very clean. Staff was kind and helpful. Didn’t try their breakfast as a lovely café was less than a block away, so I can’t speak to that. Super convenient to Zoo, airport and a quick Uber to City Centre. Would def recommend.”
– Mr. Steven Lucht, Google Review
