Private Cremation prides itself on being Ireland’s Direct Cremation Specialist, devoted to offering low-cost, compassionate, and professional cremation services. The company specializes in providing an alternative to traditional funerals, with the goal of giving people and families the flexibility to choose how they memorialize their loved ones.

We like how Private Cremation allows clients to select between a Private Cremation without a service and a Bespoke Cremation with a Committal Service at their preferred Crematorium. This adaptability means that clients may personalize their cremation experience to their own requirements and tastes.

Furthermore, the availability of Immediate Funerals and Prepaid Funeral Plans gives consumers alternatives for either immediate or long-term preparation. This flexibility allows people to create plans that fit their schedules and gives those who are planning for the future peace of mind.

It should be noted, however, that there is minimal information on whether or not Private Cremation includes eco-friendly practices or employs ecologically aware procedures and materials in their cremation operations. In an era where sustainability is a major issue, offering information about such practices might increase the service’s appeal.

Overall, Private Cremation stands itself as a caring and cost-effective Direct Cremation Specialist in Ireland, providing a realistic alternative to traditional funeral services. The emphasis on openness, freedom of choice, and service flexibility.

Established in 1832, Dublin Cemeteries Trust’s Glasnevin Cemetery is truly a piece of history as one of Ireland’s oldest operating cemeteries spanning 124-acres of land with graves, plots, and vaults of all shapes and sizes.

One of the first things we appreciated was that they’re open daily but only as late as 5pm.

They are a non-denominational facility which means they provide burial and cremation services to people of different beliefs and faiths. To arrange a cremation, you can contact the Glasnevin Cemetery directly where a funeral director will attend to your arrangement and documentation needs.

They have a wide selection of urns, scattering tubes, and keepsakes to choose from which you can purchase directly from any of their offices.

They also have complete facilities from chapels to memorial spaces so you won’t need to go far to lay your loved one in their final resting place. Do note that their chapel can only fit up to 150 mourners and is subject to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions.

However, another noteworthy service of theirs is their free live web-streaming service for family members who are unable to attend the ceremony in person.

One thing to take note of is they also have guided tours, exhibitions, a museum, restaurant, and cafe so it may be crowded from time to time.

Overall, their straightforward approach will make the entire preparation easy on your end. Taking the responsibility completely off your hands gives you the time and space to mourn.

Located in the south of Dublin, Mount Jerome Cemetery & Crematorium was first opened in 1836 and has been in the business of burials and cremations since 2000.

The crematorium charges €415 for adult cremation and €100 for infant and organ cremation with an additional €80 for their filtration fee.

One of their hallmarks is that they’re the first environmentally friendly crematorium in Ireland. They installed a filtration system to capture pollutants, recycle heat waste, and recycle residual waste materials all during the cremation process.

Another noteworthy offering is they can live stream funeral services from their Victorian Chapel or Garden Chapel. You can avail of this service for loved ones that cannot attend the memorial in person.

If you wish to make Mount Jerome the final resting place of your loved one, they offer memorial spaces in their Garden of Remembrance for €1,500 (per space) and Columbarium Wall for  €1,200 (per space).

We greatly appreciated how much their website had to offer as it was packed with so much info from the cremation process to final disposal options. To save you the trouble, their cremation forms are also accessible through their website which you can fill up at your convenience

Do keep in mind that they don’t have online booking services so you’ll have to settle appointments and payments at their crematorium. They have on-site parking so you can surely take your time to settle everything.

Corrigan & Sons is a family business that has been passed down generations equipped in handling a full range of funeral and burial services.

As a non-denominational facility, they’re equipped for religious and non-religious services according to the wishes of the family of the deceased.

Their facilities are also equipped with multimedia equipment so you can play music and a video or slideshow presentation of your loved one. However, they do not offer live streaming services.

Before cremation, their attending doctor and medical referee will perform a thorough examination of the body and ensure all legal requirements are met before a coroner can allow the cremation to push through.

Take note that the body and coffin are cremated together. Hence, the coffin must adhere to the crematorium’s regulation that it must be made completely out of combustible materials.

You can also make arrangements to have the ashes placed in one of their memorial spaces or collect them in an urn.

Apart from that, also offer additional services that can be arranged for a fee such as acknowledgment notices, memoriam notices, limousines, and floral tributes.

“I cant express myself how import Joe e the Corrigans & Sons team how so kind and helpul. A brilhant and fast service in the hardest moment I have ever had, they help me with everything, they were every moment I needed or doubt I had.  The service is outstanding,  they organised and explained everything for the repatriation of our friend and took care that all was made with high professionalism. I recommend with my eyes closed and no doubt of. They were so sensitive & compassionate towards our me and her family at one of the saddest times. Thank you Joe for all, God bless you and you are the best!” – Dani Loyarte, Google Reviews

Highly sensitive and thoughtful services

“I write to wholeheartedly commend Corrigan & Sons for their highly sensitive and thoughtful services in a recent family bereavement. The restrictions brought about by the Covid-19 crisis are challenging, and I was the sole family member in a position to attend, but the caring manner in which the funeral was conducted was exemplary. I found that the staff made every effort to engage personally with me and I genuinely could not have asked for more. ‘Five stars’ is the very minimum that I could award.” – David Toohey, Google Reviews

Massey Bros Funeral Home is a female-led funerary and crematorium that has been helping families since the 1930s with 9 locations across Dublin and Ireland.

One of the first things we appreciated was their 24/7 service that makes urgent cremations and arrangements possible.

Their facilities are equipped with multimedia technology that allows you to play music, display slideshows and videos. They can also live stream the funeral so that family members who can’t attend can still stay connected.

They also have an archive of funeral recordings on their website if you want to revisit it.

The ashes can be collected five days after the cremation and you can choose your final disposal options such as keeping the remains in an urn at home, having them scattered, or placed in a memorial space on the property.

Apart from that, they also offer additional services such as transportation by vehicle or horse-drawn carriages, funeral flowers, and even pre-paid funeral arrangements for your own funeral.

We also like the fact that they have eco-friendly funeral options such as using recycled paper for mass booklets and even selecting from their collection of biodegradable coffins.

However, none of their rates are available on their website so it’d be best if you inquire.

Customer Reviews

 Tailored, supportive and respectful experience

“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Peter and the team at Massey’s funeral home.  Peter could not have been more helpful with the arrangements for my friend’s funeral where there were a lot of sensitive issues to deal with and decisions to be made to respect her final wishes.  It was my first time to arrange a funeral and was supported with sensitivity and professionalism throughout. I would highly recommend Massey’s funeral services for a tailored, supportive and respectful experience when saying goodbye to a loved one.” – Doreen Fitzgerald

Peter went above and beyond

“As a family, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Peter and his colleagues at Massey Bros for helping us through such a difficult and challenging time. Peter and his team are model professionals that also maintained a very honest empathy throughout our dealings. In a time where Covid restrictions add an extra frustration level, Peter and his team were very mindful of our feelings and helped to continuously manage our expectations. Peter took care of everything for us and ensured that we were always kept fully informed at all times during the preparation and final services of our beloved Dad. Peter went above and beyond in our opinion, making himself available at any time of the day or night to address any concerns while also helping to follow up with us in the days after the funeral. Thank You so much…. it really was appreciated” – Damien McDonnell

Staffords Funeral Home offers a full range of funeral and cremation services such as death certificate, cremation urns, and helpful tips for grieving mourners.

One of the first things we liked was that they’re accessible 24/7 so you can give them a call or arrange a cremation any time of the day and there’ll be someone to pick up the phone.

This is great because their website doesn’t support online booking or online payments so you’ll have to settle everything in their office.

Their cremations cost around €590 to €670 with additional fees depending on your things like your chosen memorial space and cremation urns.

If you wish to open an existing grave in Dublin, that’ll set you back around €900 to €1120. You can also opt to have the ashes placed in an urn of your choice from their selection of brass, wood, glass, and cloisonne urns.

We were disappointed to see that they don’t offer live streaming services. Nonetheless, they do offer on-site parking so you can take as long as you need to in fixing the arrangements.

In case you want to plan for your own in advance, they also offer assistance in advance funeral planning. Here you can discuss how you want everything to be done and settle payments in advance.

  • Open 24/7
  • Some rates available online
  • Has parking
  • Pre-paid funeral plans

Customer Reviews

Lovely staff, always helpful

“Lovely staff, always helpful. Relaxing rooms with comfortable seating, tissues, bathroom facilities. Very upfront with pricing and options. Easily located by car or bus with cafe next door. Local florist can deliver straight to funeral home. Overall the service was easily navigated due to staff helpfulness at a horrible time.” – Anne King, Google Reviews

We were dealt with compassion and professionalism

“Cant give enough praise to Staffords Ballyfermot and in particular to David.  A funeral service at any time is difficult, but with Covid restrictions, even more so.  Thanks to Staffords premises and services, we managed to give our Dad a warm and dignified final farewell.  From our initial contact with Staffords to this very moment,  we were dealt with compassion and professionalism.  Truly a positive experience and good memories on an otherwise, very sad day. Thank you again Staffords for taking such good care of Dad and all our family.” – Lorrain McMahon, Google Reviews
