We got dirty trying the 3 best ATV trails in Ireland (worth it)!
When I was younger, I liked doing what my brothers did. I ran around, played tag, pulled pranks, and even tried to play rough like they did. But I also have a younger sister who was (and still) super girly, so we never really played much.
Still, our mum always wanted us to bond with our little sis. We tried but failed as kids, but we eventually got creative as adults. My brothers cooked up an elaborate prank on her by planning a ‘mud bath spa day’ for us siblings.
When we pulled up at an ATV trail in Ireland, our sister realised that it was all a ruse and was pissed. But when she cooled off, she actually had a blast with all the adrenaline, and she did get mud all over. Here are the best tracks we’ve tried since.

Looking for a spacious ATV trail in Ireland? Carrick Quads is a 100-acre farm trail system with an open countryside, as well as woodlands and fields. We believe this is great for kids, teens, and adults looking for a fun outdoor activity.
For one, this adventure sports centre offers a good mix of slopes, mud pits, and water splashes. And besides the stunning Shannon River Valley views, there are purpose-built obstacles (hill climbs, jumps, and water crossings) to keep things interesting.
Moreover, you don’t have to worry about safety gear, since everything’s provided here—like the modern, well-maintained Yamaha Grizzly ATVs available for all. And for some extra fun, we suggest trying a clay target shooting session with friends too!
Pro tips:
- Book Carrick Quads as early as 9 am so you can capture the misty landscapes—you can also raise your chances of spotting local wildlife!
- Ask about the ‘Full Throttle’ package as well! We love that this already includes lunch at a local farmhouse restaurant, so you can save more.

QuadVenture offers a thrilling ATV experience that features the beauty of Ireland’s ancient east. Apart from the open fields, woodlands, and hill climbs, we reckon history buffs would love passing by ancient Celtic settlements and stone formations around.
The routes here also look very family-friendly, with dual-control quads for the youngsters and archery for the older peeps. Of course, there are purpose-built mud runs and water splashes to make things challenging.
Handy hacks:
- We suggest visiting QuadVenture during spring for the best forest floor backdrops—it’s carpeted with wild garlic and bluebells!
- Don’t forget to bring extra clothes and shoes since this trail’s mud pits are legendary. No matter how much you try to be careful, you’ll likely get dirty.

Those who easily get bored with plain trails might love Irish Country Quads for its varied terrain. Think rolling hills and lush countryside! But don’t fret, this popular adventure centre can cater to all skill levels.
Brace yourself for some personalised obstacles too, like mud tracks, thrilling ascents, and log crossings! But what we like the most is the night experience—you’ll get LED-lit trails during the winter months to maximise safety.
Nifty tricks:
- Cool with being dirty in mud? Some people visit Irish Country Quads after the train for maximum mud action. We think the clay soil provides the perfect conditions for this—perfect for kids and kids at heart, we say.
- We also encourage staying for the post-ride BBQ sessions at weekends. You’ll get to eat locally sourced beef and traditional Irish sides, which many travellers love going back to.
