The 5 Best Bike Shops Around Bruntsfield That Became Our Ride-Or-Die Picks
I can barely keep up with my sons’ biking hobby, and I didn’t get it at first. But as I’ve been having FOMO (fear of missing out), I learned how to bike and scoped out the best stores—mainly so I can be the cool mum and spend more time with my boys. Win-win!
So whether you’re a parent buying kiddie bikes, fitness lover, or daily commuter, my sons and I have reviewed these top-rated bike shops around Bruntsfield to help you out.
How We Chose The Best Bike Shops Around Bruntsfield
1. Pedals Bike Care

Address: 7 Bruntsfield Pl, Edinburgh
Phone: +44 131 629 6065, [email protected]
Business hours:
- Mon-Sat: 9:00am – 6:00pm
- Sun: Closed
Pedals Bike Care specialises in high-quality repairs by an experienced team of mechanics.
We like that it has a broad list of services, including a dedicated suspension service department alongside its repairs. You just have to leave your bike there before 11 am, so the team can complete the repair within the day.
Of course, there are times when they might not be able to finish the repairs on the same day. If you need your bike prioritised (like for a big race this weekend), we recommend bringing this up from the get-go.
It’s also convenient for us that it offers a good number of bikes you can demo, though this costs £30 for the whole day (9:30 am to 4:30 pm). But if you’re not happy with these bikes, we love that you can purchase custom builds too.
Not to mention, we appreciate that this shop works with a few brands you can’t easily find in other stores around. For example, you can look for Hope, Pipedream, or Banshee brands here.
Plus, we’re stoked that it’s an eco-conscious store. It uses biodegradable lubes and cleaners, and it recycles about 90% of its waste—even the tyres too!
Just remember that this cycling shop currently doesn’t have an online booking system. If interested, the easiest way to reach the team is by phone.
The Best
“Definitely the best bike shop in Edinburgh in my opinion. Today they quickly turned round a repair on my bike for a super reasonable price. I’ve also previously had my suspension serviced there and the workmanship was top notch. I cant recommend these guys enough!”
– Mr. Andrew McCrirrick, Google Review
Excellent
“Excellent service and communication, friendly staff, fair prices. Far and away the best of the local bike shops in the Bruntsfield / Marchmont area.”
– Mr. Paul Kerlaff, Google Review
2. The Bicycle Works

Address: 29-30 Argyle Pl, Edinburgh
Phone: +44 131 228 8820, [email protected]
Business hours:
- Mon-Fri: 8:00am – 8:00pm
- Sat-Sun: 10:00am – 6:00pm
Near Bruntsfield, The Bicycle Works provides a wide array of components and cycling accessories. We like that it caters to all levels of cyclists, from those who still need stabilisers (kids and newbies) to those who bike for a living.
Aside from repairs and servicing, it offers wheel building, accessory supply and fitting, mudguard fitting, race preparations, and the like. This place is truly a one-stop shop for all skill levels.
Should you have a dream bike, its team can build it too! We’re impressed that the shop can make one suited to your riding style, ability, and budget—something for everyone.
This spot is also one of the longest-running independent bicycle repair stores in Edinburgh. That’s why it’s no surprise for us that it has many life-long bikers as patrons.
And unlike some stores, I’m all for the fact that it’s open every day! Just note that it works shorter hours on weekends.
Despite the positives, there’s a minor thing we think could be approved: the turnaround times can sometimes be unpredictable because its repair jobs are queued, not scheduled.
All Sorted in Less than a Day
“Really helpful and great service. Called in on the off chance that they could fix a faulty break system on a baby buggy. All sorted in less than a day.”
– Mr. James Paton, Google Review
Very Friendly and Knowledgeable
“A proper bike workshop and great staff. Very friendly and knowledgeable.
Fixed my bike issue whilst doing Lejog. From the initial phone call to the fix these guys were great. Thank you for getting me back on the road again. Ben”

3. Edinburgh Bicycle Coop

Address: 8 Alvanley Terrace, Edinburgh
Phone: +44 131 228 3565, [email protected]
Business hours:
- Mon-Fri: 9:00am – 6:00pm
- Sat-Sun: 10:00am – 6:00pm
Edinburgh Bicycle Coop has plenty of options—mountain, BMX, and road bikes. It offers clothing, accessories, and repair services, too.
If there’s one thing that stood out the most to us, it’s how the store is among the early adopters of e-bikes. Its team does diagnostics as well, so you can maintain your electric machine.
A client we had a chat with praises its staff for providing sound recommendations to adjust his bike, instead of just selling him new pieces. For us, this shows that the staff genuinely cares.
We also appreciate that several items here are easy on the wallet. For example, you can source good deals for Continental Tyres (a leading manufacturer of passenger and light truck tyres in Europe).
However, we heard of an instance when a client found a good deal on a gear, only to hear from the cashier that there had been an error.
While this could be a one-off issue, we still recommend double-checking discounts before making payments to avoid any hassle.
Brilliant Service
“Great shop, brilliant service! These guys saved us when we had to pack our bikes into airline-approved boxes at short notice because we had to change planes spontaneously!!”
– Mr. Tim Gru, Google Review
Very Helpful Staff
“I have been in here twice so far and both times I’ve had very helpful staff really give me their time to go through my questions. Had recommendations to adjust my current kit instead of just buying new pieces which tells me that these guys are not here just to rob you of a pound any chance they get. Will be recommending this bike shop just as they’ve been recommended to me (for obvious reasons)”
– Mr. Patrick De Tomasi, Google Review
4. Laid Back Bikes

Address: 13 St Peter’s Pl, Edinburgh
Phone: +44 7981 430159, [email protected]
Business hours:
- Sat: 10:00am – 3:30pm
- Sun-Fri: Closed
Laid Back Bikes is a bicycle shop for many cycling options—recumbent bikes (stationary ones that allow riders to sit in a reclined position), cargo bikes, trikes, and tandems, as well as rentals.
You can also have your bike customised here. The team is amenable to lots of requests (that are mechanically possible, of course).
Some clients we interviewed loved its staff’s after-purchase service. In our opinion, this speaks volumes about how helpful they are, even when the client is no longer in the store.
If you need help with payment, we’re also happy that it offers finance options via Green Commute, Cyclescheme, and the like.
Just one drawback, though—this store is open only on Saturdays and by appointment. Should you be interested, it’s smart to book well in advance to ensure a slot.
Very Helpful and Knowledgeable
“Thanks to the proprietor for a quick check of my front wheel. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Saved me worrying about it falling off.”
– Mr. Robin Pakeman, Google Review
Excellent Customer Engagement and Service
“Outstanding. I visited in August and spent over an hour testing a ICE trike. The subsequent purchase and delivery (to Newcastle) was completely free of stress and drama. Excellent customer engagement and service.”
– Mr. Alastair Fulcher, Google Review
5. Soul Cycles

Address: 1 Brougham Pl, Edinburgh
Phone: +44 131 228 5913, [email protected]
Business hours:
- Mon-Wed, Fri–Sat: 10:00am – 6:00pm
- Thu: 10:00am – 8:00pm
- Sun: 12:00pm – 6:00pm
Need to bike right now? Soul Cycles has over 50 bikes in-store ready to go, offering convenience that saves time.
There are also a bunch of new and used bikes with all sizes and shapes here, so we bet it’s easy to find one for every member of your family or friend group. E-bikes are available here too!
But if you prefer a specific brand, we’re in awe that the shop has plenty of partners. This includes Tern Bicycles, Temple Cycles, Marin Bikes, and more.
It also provides bike hires, and we commend that its website posts complete and transparent costs; you don’t see that often!
You can hire bikes for 1, 2 to 3, 4 to 6, and 7+ days. There are also separate fees for children, as well as Bronze, Silver, and Gold tiers.
Along with that, we appreciate that this store is accessible every day, so you can bike almost anytime you want.
Still, we noticed that its stock of used bikes moves quickly. Our advice is to browse through these first upon entering the shop before moving on to the others.
Fantastic Experience
“Fantastic experience renting a gravel bike at Soul Cycles, would definitely recommend working with them! They offered me to try different bikes to find the perfect fit, and I ended up with a super well-maintained Cinelli. Lots of fun”
– Mr. Marc Geiller, Google Review
Extremely Nice, Professional, and Helpful
“My partner and I rented e-bikes from Soul Cycles a few days ago and were blown away by the service and the quality of the bikes. The bikes were very well maintained and Ali the owner was extremely nice, professional and helpful. I recommend renting a bike from Soul Cycles when in Edinburgh as it is a great way to see the city from a different perspective!”
