Top Places for Pottery & Ceramics in Ireland
We’re using the following factors to review the best places for pottery and ceramics in the country:
1. Doolin Cave

| Convenience | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
| Value for money | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
| Variety | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
| Professionalism | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
Doolin Cave Pottery is run by potter Caireann Browne, who uses glacial clay hand-dug deep from the caverns of Doolin Cave. This clay is ancient, formed during ice ages, and contains pollen from prehistoric flora — giving each piece real geological heritage.
Her process is inspired by the cave’s natural formations: the flow and drip of stalactites are echoed in the glazing and layering techniques she uses. This gives her ceramics a distinct, textured look that feels deeply connected to the cave environment.
Caireann’s craft is rooted in serious training — she has over 20 years of pottery experience, formal art-school training, and time spent working in European ceramic studios. This ensures both artistic vision and technical quality in her work.
Their pottery shop offers a curated, handcrafted collection: items like mugs, jars, bowls and vases — all made with cave clay and unique glazing. Many of these are available to buy both at the visitor centre and online, making them accessible souvenirs of Doolin Cave.
Beyond just selling pottery, the ceramics offer a tangible piece of local geological history, making them meaningful gifts or mementos. Visitors who tour Doolin Cave can pair the natural wonder underground with a beautifully crafted ceramic object above ground.
A possible drawback is that pieces are handcrafted and made from rare glacial clay, so prices can be higher than ordinary studio pottery. Also, because clay is hand-dug from deep inside the cave, production may be limited, so some designs or sizes may not always be in stock.
Overall, Doolin Cave Pottery stands out as a truly unique artisan experience in Ireland — combining geological history, craft tradition and natural beauty into every ceramic item. For collectors or visitors looking for something special, its combination of story, material and feel is hard to beat.
Pros
- Unique clay source from inside Doolin Cave
- Beautiful, textured glazing inspired by cave formations
- High craftsmanship from an experienced potter
- Authentic, site-specific souvenirs
- Online and on-site shopping
Cons
- Advanced booking is recommended

Fun experience
We had such a wonderful afternoon with Keri at the painted pot! She was so helpful in explaining different techniques in creating our painted “masterpieces”. We can’t wait to come back and paint a few more pieces and have a go at the pottery wheel too.

I painted on a mug and to be honest, it’s my favourite mug at this moment!—Olivia Quirke-McFarlane, Google Reviews

5. Ardmore Pottery & Gallery

| Convenience | ★★★★★ (5/5) |
| Value for money | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
| Variety | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
| Professionalism | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Ardmore Pottery & Gallery is one of those places that you’ll visit despite being far from where you live. It’s not located in a commercial area, but it’s definitely worth visiting not only because of what the shop offers but also because of the view.
Oh yes, it has a stunning view of the sea! Some customers told us they just happened to pass by the place but thought it was worth the stop because they could buy souvenirs and at the same time take advantage of the stunning view.
Speaking of the shop, we think you’d love the variety it offers. It offers a lot of products like ceramics and paintings, and some of them are personally crafted by the owners, which makes them one of a kind.

Top-notch customer service response
5 stars for the incredible customer service I experienced recently when I ordered a lampshade that didn’t suit the lamp, only realised when it arrived. Returned and refunded, but Linda emailed asking for photos of our old and much-loved Inistioge pottery lamp. Then Mary made us a shade that is so perfect. We are so delighted with it.
