When we asked some regular patrons of The Green Door Market what they loved the most about it, they told us it’s the eco-friendly practices. The market encourages you to recycle which is the best way to help the environment.

It’s good to note that The Green Door Market is a zero waste market. We appreciate that the management encourages you to bring your own bags or cartons for your shopping so there would be less trash around!

Another thing we love about The Green Door Market is the variety of stalls it has. We feel like anything you want to find in a night market, you’ll be able to buy here!

It offers fresh organic produce, international cuisine, crafts, clothes, furniture, and other things you might find in some stalls. Just a little warning though—there are limited food stalls, but at least the available ones taste amazing (try the Indian stall)!

And lastly—The Green Door Market is bicycle-friendly as well as pet-friendly. You can bring your pets and bicycles as you roam around the stalls.

Just like some markets around Ireland, Liberty Market also functions as a regular market, hence you can find basic items here as well. However, the occasional night markets offer more specialised items you can’t find elsewhere.

In fact, we’re able to talk to a few regulars, and they told us you can find unique goods in some of the stalls. And just in case you’re looking for something else they don’t have, they’ll be willing to find it for you!

If you’re a local, Liberty Market’s an ideal place for you—you’ll find everything from clothes to household goods or even services such as a haircut or a hair wash. It’s also a place for cheap accessories like jewellery and affordable beauty products.

It’s also a must-visit place for tourists in terms of experience since it’s also near some tourist spots and has a welcoming atmosphere. However, the items you can find here cater to the locals more since the stall offers more local products.

We think Liberty Market’s also the perfect place for seasonal night shopping. Like they offer themed products like Christmas products for the holidays!

We think you’ll also be relieved to know that even though the stalls are small, some of them accept credit cards. If you’re not comfortable bringing a lot of money, then it’s an advantage for you.

Just a warning that it tends to get crowded so you should take care of your belongings to avoid loss. Some stalls also need renovations since some of them already look a little worn out.

Pros

  • Affordable prices
  • Welcoming atmosphere
  • Offers several products as well as services
  • Has cafes and family-friendly pubs
  • Mostly filled with local shops that sell local goods
  • Christmas night market has lots of Christmas goods
  • Near some tourist spots
  • Some stalls accept credit cards
  • Has unique items you can’t find elsewhere

Cons

  • Not an ideal shopping destination for tourists
  • Some stalls need renovations
  • Can get a little overcrowded

Most of the locals we talked to call Jamestown Market a treasure chest. They warned us, not in an exactly bad way, that even though we didn’t have plans on buying anything, we’d still end up buying something!

We couldn’t help but agree. Jamestown Market is a melting pot of several items including antique furniture, second hand clothes, crafts, toys, and even gadgets!

There are a lot of unique items we think you won’t find elsewhere. It’s really a place for vintage lovers—you might not want to leave when you see what’s being sold.

The good thing about it is that despite most items being second-hand items, you can find something that’s fully functioning. And you can also still haggle with the price, which can be quite an experience.

Speaking of pricing, most of the items sold at Jamestown Market are really cheap—especially the clothes! So make sure you don’t get too carried away or you’ll end up buying a lot.

The sellers are friendly as well so you can ask them for assistance or information. The market’s tourist-friendly, so everyone will feel welcome here.

We also like that the market’s accessible and easy to find. Plus—you don’t need to worry about parking because there’s plenty of space for everyone’s cars.

The market can use a couple of food stalls though because there’s no food stalls inside. Also, make sure to bring cash since most stalls don’t accept credit cards.

Pros

  • Friendly sellers
  • Great bargains
  • Sells a lot of vintage items
  • Easy parking
  • Sells a variety of random things you can’t find elsewhere

Cons

  • No food stalls
  • Tends to get really crowded
  • Needs a little more maintenance
  • Accepts cash only

Great bargain stores that prefer cash!

Never knew this place existed. Some great bargains to be found… you will find the most random things inside. Sellers are all 10/10 so friendly. Will be easier to get parked outside too! Bring cash! Cash is King! — Lana Del May, Google Reviews

Mountain View Markets in Kilkenny is one of those markets in Ireland that has themed night markets. It has Christmas and New Year night markets that are open until 8 pm, and the stalls sell seasonal Christmas decorations and holiday-themed food!

Speaking of food, Mountain View has some of the best food and craft stalls in Ireland. There are plenty of delicious choices that even the pickiest eater will have something to enjoy!

Just a little warning though—some of the food is expensive. But we still think they’re worth trying because it’s not everyday that you go to Kilkenny to enjoy the market!

Plus there’s the view of the mountains and the relaxing atmosphere. Most regular visitors go here with their families and friends to relax and have fun, and not just to shop.

Also, according to frequent visitors, they go to Mountain View to buy gifts. The craft stalls have a lot of pretty products that are ideal for gift-giving—unique and locally made items that are rare to find.

Another thing we love about this market is that it’s well-maintained. The stalls are also organised in terms of the layout so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for.

Just one thing that might make you reconsider—it’s a difficult climb for cars. The ground’s rocky and quite hard, and the pathways are a little steep so you might need to be careful.

Pros

  • Picturesque view
  • Plenty of food and craft stalls
  • Family-friendly
  • Pet-friendly
  • Perfect place to buy gifts
  • Well-maintained stalls
  • Organised layout
  • Themed night markets

Cons

  • Not ideal for cars
  • Some food are costly

Customer Reviews

Plenty of food and craft stalls with a nice view

A great way to spend a few hours, such a lovely variety of food and craft stalls. Great atmosphere, good music, and cute dogs everywhere — Cassie Kielyj, Google Reviews

Pet-friendly and perfect view, but not ideal for cars

Lovely dog friendly day out in a scenic location.  Plenty of artisanal goods and foods available to buy. Very friendly atmosphere. If you’re using wheels to get around the ground is rough and hard going. There is a fairly steep hill down to the main market area which is tough to ascend. Bring an assistant if possible. it’s worth it.— Susie CK, Trip Advisor

What we love about The Milk Market is that it’s covered, which makes it an ideal place to shop even if the weather isn’t that good. It’s also quite a large place with plenty of crafts and food stalls everywhere, making it a family-friendly venue!

According to the regular visitors, mostly from Limerick, The Milk Market is a foodie’s paradise! You can find all types of food here, and you’ll never run out of choices!

We love that there’s plenty of food to choose from—baked goods, street food, and even international cuisine. There’s also live music to enjoy while you’re eating your food at the seating area upstairs—the one with the entire view of the market!

This seating area can get instantly full though on a busy day. The Milk Market tends to be crowded most especially in the afternoon, and it can get quite uncomfortable for those who aren’t fond of a large crowd.

We also want to add that The Milk Market’s one of those which hold special events like fairs and food fests, which are usually held at night. However, you might need to check the website for schedules because these events aren’t regular events.

Just one thing worth noting—there are times when some stalls don’t open at all. This can be a bummer especially for those who go here to shop, only to find out some stalls that could’ve offered what they need are closed.

Pros

  • Live music
  • Plenty of street food stalls
  • Has a lot of arts and crafts stalls
  • Baked goodies
  • Themed night markets
  • Near tourist spots

A covered market with lots of seating areas

A covered market in Limerick city: open every Saturday for the public. The milk market is a great place to grab fresh coffee, juice, bakery, fruits, cheese, meats, and crafts!

It’s a place where people meet on Saturdays to walk around, grab coffee and chat!

Irish music playing in the background, the smell of fresh coffee around the place and business owners chatting with the public and presenting their goods. There’s a cool seating area upstairs with nice views of the entire market.— Housin Benlaib, Google Reviews

A foodie’s paradise!

A fantastic place to visit during your visit to Limerick.  A foodie’s paradise!  Some of the best food you’ll find anywhere!  You might think you’ll just wander through and look but you’ll wind up staying for hours enjoying the colours, smells and sounds.  Like anywhere else in Ireland, if you make eye contact with anyone, you’re bound to have a pleasant and interesting conversation!  You’ll definitely want to go back especially on a Saturday when all the food stalls are in operation and the place is buzzing with activity!  The Milk Market is one of the oldest if not the oldest market in Ireland!  A true gem!— George Kyritsis, Google Reviews
