A Beginner’s Guide to Easy Aircon Care

The last thing you’d want on a hot summer day is for your aircon to conk out. Which is why you’ve got to take good care of your aircon to ensure that it performs at its best at all times.

In this article, we’ll go through some tips and tricks you may not know about aircon care. By the end, you’ll be on your way to clean your aircon.

Let’s get started, shall we?

Read the manual and user care guide

Remember that pamphlet you never bothered opening that came with the unit? Hate to break it to ‘ya, but you really should read that thing.

We know it’s a chore and “uncool”, but being educated about the ins and outs of your machine is a plus! They also come with some basic instructions on cleaning and maintaining your unit.

If you misplaced it (we know you threw it in the bin!), you can look up the manual and user care guide online. There’ll definitely be digital copies on the manufacturer’s official website or even YouTube!

If you can’t find it, try giving the manufacturer a call to see if they can email you a copy.

Clean the filter and front grille often

Clean the filter and front grille often

The filter is prone to accumulating a ton of dust, debris, and dirt. If left alone, the air flowing through the aircon will be dirty and dusty.

This could lead to allergies and other health issues. Hence, it’s advisable to clean the filter every 3 months at least to get rid of harsh impurities.

After gently removing the filter, shake off any excess dust before using a vacuum cleaner or air compressor to suck up the dirt.

If you want to do a deep clean, soak the filter in warm water for at least 15 minutes. Afterwards, brush gently with a soft bristled brush or a cloth then leave to dry.

As for the grills or coils, you can use a damp cloth to wipe away dirt build up then dry with a cloth. Doing so will help increase air flow quality and cooler air.

Keep in mind that you’ll have to make sure that all the parts are completely dry before reassembling to reduce the chances of mold build up.

Inspect your aircon regularly

Inspect your aircon regularly

The outside matters just as much as the inside. Try to make it a routine to check your unit’s components, namely: wiring, condenser fan, and switch.

Take a look every now and check if your fan has any cracks or if the motor bearings need to be oiled.

If something looks like it needs to be replaced, trust your gut and replace it ASAP. You don’t want faulty wiring or overheating to destroy your aircon, or worse, land you a trip to the doctor’s.

Inspect any signs of overheating or drips as well. Leaks could be a sign of a clogged condensate drain line and could ruin your floors or carpets

Have your aircon serviced every few months

Though you’d save money doing things yourself, handing the job over to the professionals is always the right call.

If you think there’s something wrong with your aircon, call your electrician or the manufacturer to have a look.

Most companies offer free telephone consultations to understand your problem better. After, they’ll schedule for a technician come over to solve the issue for you.

This concludes our guide on aircon care made easy! We hope that you adopt these tips into your cleaning routine to keep your aircon lasting years.
