8 Mexican Restaurants in Dublin That’ll Guac Your World

It all started with a birthday dinner I didn’t expect to change my life.

My friend dragged me to a “new Mexican spot” in Dublin, and I almost passed on it. I’d been disappointed by too many soggy burritos and bland salsa. But that meal was a revelation. The tacos were perfect, and I was hooked.

Since then, I’ve spent a few weekends exploring the best Mexican restaurants in Dublin. After tasting my way through the city, I’ve found the top 9 spots that’ll really guac your world.

Ready to spice up your next meal? Here’s where to go.

1. Kalabasa Market

For great Mexican food in Dublin, Kalabasa Market is worth checking out.

This place mixes Mexican and Brazilian flavors in the best way possible. The name “Kalabasa” means pumpkin in Spanish, which sounds healthy—but don’t worry, it’s not a pumpkin-only menu.

The menu has a wide variety of favorites, big portions, and surprisingly fair prices. We didn’t have to take out a loan for dinner, which was nice.

The platter was our favorite—it had a bit of everything, and it all tasted amazing. The Picanha steak was juicy and full of flavor. Even the vegetarian dishes had our mouths watering. The €10 lunch menu is also a steal.

Inside, the place has a fun and relaxed vibe. There’s plenty of seating, so no one has to hover awkwardly with a drink. They even have a karaoke bar—but don’t worry, you won’t have to sing for your supper! The space works well for groups, date nights, or last-minute dinners when no one feels like cooking.

El Grito Mexican Taqueria

El Grito Mexican Taqueria in Mountjoy Square is a special place you find and then can’t stop thinking about. It feels like a small bit of Mexico in Dublin, with colorful decorations and a cozy feeling that makes you want to stay a long time.

Tacos are a highlight here! We tried a bunch since they come in small sizes, which is perfect because no one wants to commit to just one flavor. The Carnitas taco was a clear winner, and the cactus one surprised us—in a good way.

The drinks at El Grito, both with and without alcohol, are really good. They taste fresh and fun. You can even play a Mexican electric shock game at the table, where you get a little zap while waiting for your food. It’s a funny way to stay awake!

The staff is friendly and quick, although we did notice they might miss you if you’re just sitting quietly (note to self: waving wildly might help). The place is family-friendly, and there’s even a playground nearby for the little ones.

Agave is a charming restaurant on Lord Edward Street that brings a real taste of Mexico to the city. The food is full of flavor, the service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. They say it’s one of the best Mexican spots in town, and we have to agree!

The menu has all the favorites—tacos, enchiladas, and mole. We tried the tacos al pastor and the cochinita pibil tacos—they were juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. For dessert, the churros con chocolate are a popular pick!

We also tried the homemade horchata, which tasted like cinnamon, rice, and childhood happiness in a glass.

The staff ewe kind and quick, even when we came in with a group and a stroller that could have caused some drama. They managed to fit us in without any fuss and made us feel welcome the whole time.

4. Pickosito Northern Mexican Taqueria

Pickosito Northern Mexican Taqueria on Mary Street is a great spot for authentic Mexican food in Dublin. It brings the flavors of Northern Mexico to the city and is a favorite with both locals and visitors!

What makes this place special is their handmade flour tortillas. They’re the only place in Dublin that makes them fresh every day! We even got to watch them being made before they landed on our plate! It’s a simple touch, but it makes a big difference!

It goes without saying then that the tacos are a must—fresh, flavorful, and served in their signature tortillas. The menu is also packed with favorites like burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas verdes (

With all the rich, savory dishes, we recommend having some refreshing aguas frescas on the side, or try the tres leches cake and cheesecake for dessert!

5. Tacos Lupillo

For a true taste of Mexico in Dublin, Tacos Lupillo may just one of the city’s best kept secrets!  Located beside Cleary’s Pub in Kilmainham, this tiny taquería is hard to miss with its bright pink door—and even harder to forget once you’ve tasted what’s inside!

The place is tiny. We’re talking four swats, max. But somehow, that just makes it better. It feels more like someone’s home kitchen than a restaurant. The chef’s family has been making tacos in Mexico for generations, and it shows!

We loved the Tacos Al Pastor here! Then came the Barbacoa Tacos, which we found was pure happiness. The Gringas were gooey, cheesy, and perfect for anyone who believes tortillas and cheese should always be friends.

We washed everything down with their homemade horchata. For dessert, try the churros–basically caramel-filled joy. They’re not always on the menu, but when they are, you’ll wish you ordered two!

6. 777

Price Range: $$$

777 is a one-of-a-kind spot–it’s Ireland’s only contemporary Mexican restaurant, and it’s making waves for all the right reasons! It looks like a dive bar, but don’t let the neon lights and cheeky vibe fool you—the food here is the real deal.

We recommend bringing friends, because the menu is made for sharing. We recommend starting with totopos—crispy chips with fresh guac and salsa–and the oysters with pomegranate and habanero.

For something filling, try the blackened chicken or the prawn with squid rice! And whatever you do, make sure to save room for churros!

The drinks here impress too! You can try the Lobo Verde for a gentle kick, the Margarita del Fumo for something smoky, or the Pinky Tuscadero mocktail for something refreshing.

7. Mama’s Revenge

Operating Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – 11 AM to 7:30 PM; Saturday – 12 to 6 PM; Sunday – Closed

Price Range: $

For Tex-Mex food in Dublin, Mama’s Revenge is a great place to try. This small spot doesn’t look like much from the outside, but once we stepped in, we knew we’ve made the right decision!

This small, independent restaurant is known for its burritos, quesadillas, nachos, and chili. The food is made fresh in-house and the portions are big, making it a good choice for a quick and filling meal.

The burritos are a favorite here. The regular size is already quite large, and the jumbo version is even more filling. There are many choices for fillings, including pulled pork, chicken, chorizo, or vegetarian options like peppers, aubergine, and even sweet potato.

The quesadillas came highly recommended, so we got the “baby” size, thinking it would be a light snack (it wasn’t). The staff were great—friendly, fast, and funny. Prices were also kind, especially for central Dublin. Burrito and drink for about €11 felt like a rare win!

8. Pablo Picante

Price Range: $

Pablo Picante is a great place to enjoy Mexican food in Dublin. The food is delicious, the servings are big, and the atmosphere is friendly. It’s a place you’ll want to visit again and again!

The burritos are the best thing here, full of fresh and colorful ingredients. We tried the Beefy Barbacoa, and it was really good. The Victorio Verde for veggies was tasty too, showing that vegetables can be just as exciting as meat.

The Trash Can Nachos are like a party on a plate, piled high with toppings. It’s great to share with friends—unless you’re super hungry or don’t mind eating it all yourself.

The staff are nice and ready to help, especially if you want to make your own burrito. The place is relaxed and comfortable, with both indoor and outdoor seats. For something a little different, you can even take your food to-go and enjoy  at St Stephen’s Green nearby!
